Cyriel Dessers was on target for Rangers who defeated St. Johnstone 2-0 in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.
The win means Rangers, on 40 points, are now just two points behind leaders Celtic in the 12-team league table.
Dessers got on the score sheet in the 28th minute to put Rangers 1-0 ahead.
The 29-year-old has taken his tally in all competitions to nine for Rangers this season (he has six goals in 14 league appearances).

Skipper, James Tavernier, converted an 84th minute penalty to double Rangers’ lead.
Dessers has scored three goals in his last four games for the Scottish giants.
He helped Rangers lift the Scottish League Cup at the weekend after a 1-0 win against Aberdeen.
Also, he was included in the Super Eagles 40-man provisional squad for AFCON 2023.

Dessers can’t stop scoring in every match he plays. Hmm, what a striker. Indeed, Kolawole is on fire . He scored one and got a penalty for Rangers. He would have scored more than one goal in that match.
Unless Oga Paseiro wants to do magomago, Dessers deserves to be in Ivory Coast to represent Nigeria in January next year kę.
I hope Ayphillydegreat and Co are watching? When you say it is over, then God knows how to turn things around, and this is what is happening to Dessers. Watch out for Kolawole oooo my people Chai, this Dessers will rule the world of football soon.
Dessers is a go machine, and if playing regularly, he can score as many goals as possible in a single match.
A player who knows how to score or provides assistance for others to score.
A striker that can’t take his eyes off when it comes to scoring goals. A striker that is hard to caged, no matter how hard it may be, Dessers will create space to score. Kai, what else can I say about a world-class striker like Dessers?
Kolawole is well blessed with quick thinking whenever he’s close to the goal post. A striker like Dessers is rare to see nowadays, and if Oga Paseiro misses this opportunity, then who else is in the Super Eagles to replace Dessers?
Let’s support Cyriel Kolawole Dessers this time around Nigerians. He deserves a place in the Super Eagles shikena. Keep the fire burning Kolawole. God is your strength. God bless us all.Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
@ Omo nijja, na only one player you dey praise so? abi 7. Dessers na my man but abeg leave Dessers make e settle well and continue banging unto world cup. No be this AFCON. But if any of the preferred fall short, then he is next in line. We should please learn to accept and support the coaches choice, so when they fail, they will only have themselves to blame as well as accept the damage such failure will bring to their rating/career.
@Glory, is Dessers not deserves that?you see, if I used my mouth to cut you a cola nut, you might not eat, but if I use my mouth to talk, please listen to me so well my dear Mercy.
According to you, “leave Dessers make e settle well and continue banging unto world cup. No, be this AFCON. ”
Hmm. Just a quick question. Who do you think is better than Dessers among the strikers we have currently?
You see, Young man, Dessers has nothing to prove to nobody because he has been doing his thing for how many years now and for you to say he should forget this Afcon says a lot about you and Eguavoen.
I love other strikers too, but even Osimhen can not bench Dessers in the Super Eagles, but just because Osimhen has been in the Super Eagles and he is our main striker, that is what Osimhen has over Dessers.
If we are talking about the potential a striker must have, I think Dessers has it all. Am I lying ba? The goal machine can destroy any team.
Nonetheless, can Moffi, Boniface, Umar Sodiq, and Onuachu also put Kolawole out if the Super Eagles? Based on their I don’t think so.
You can clearly see now that Cyriel Dessers is leading the attack for Rangers, and he’s playing regularly and he’s in the form of his life.
Please, Mercy, Dessers deserves some respect from us all, although he’s underrated among the strikers, but in truth, one of the best strikers we have currently.
Don’t let me go further on this because you may say my mouth is too sweet but I am telling you the truth and based on what we have now, he is the kind of striker we need in the Super Eagles period. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Eguavon made a mistake by not taking him to afcon. I believe apart from Oshimen, the striker who can truly stand and di well in that position is desser. He is aggressive. Fast thinker. Good goal scorer. He can also assist.
It’s a pity he is 29 and we have not really utilized him in super eagles.
Eguaveon said he does not know Dessers… after collecting bribe from Henry Onyekuru, they think we dont know what is happening…
You forgot to add that he also dropped Calvin Bassey for an unfit Olisa Ndah who wasn’t even shortlisted ab initio after collecting bribe too.
That was the last time the boy ever made any SE list if my memory serves me well….LMAOoo
@Dr.Drey… somehow you think Calvin Bassey even now is a better player than Olisah Ndah just because he plays for Fulham and Olisah plays for Pirates in SA? Since Olisah returned from injury, why dont you ask again how he is faring in SA PSL? We know those wey sabi play ball. Peseiro wanted Chuba Akpom and rates him very high but the likes od Eguaveon are at it again that Mr. Non-playing captain should still go even though everyone knows he is now deadweight… I will like Mr. Non-Playing to go to Cote d’voire but only as chief psychologist and kitman. His good days are way behind him at 38years old, while claiming 30yrs.
The only time Olisah Ndah ever made any SE list was when his egunje scoffing godfather Eguafailure smuggled his name via the pigeon hole into the SE list despite not being earlier shortlisted.
Eguavoen never deemeed Ndah good enough for further invitations to the SE after pocketing the bribe from the “take Ndah to AFCON” marketing campaign.
Ndah had/has NEVER made any SE list before or after then (I still stand to be corrected).
So its not only me who “thinks” Calvin Bassey is a better player than Olisah Ndah. 3 SE coaches think so too……We all cannot be wrong about the same players…..LMAOOoo
Ive read you dropping list upon list of players that should make our 2024 AFCON squad, even you have severally included Bassey in your lists ahead of Ndah……LMAOooo….as a matter of fact, Ndah’s name as repeatedly continued to be conspicuously missing….despite your ” knowing those wey sabi play ball”……LMAOooo. I guess you have not been “asking yourself again how he is faring in SA PSL?”
That Bassey is a better player than your Ndah shouldn’t even be up for debate.
And cry the volume of the whole of benue river, like Keshi, Amokachi, Kanu Nwankwo, Joseph Yobo before him, Musa will also attend this AFCON as a non playing captain….LMAOooo. I fell your pains though, but a thousand of you cant change it……LMAOooo
@Dr.Drey… your past-time is quarreling. @Ayphillydegreat and @JimmyBall don rollout their preferred list, for folks wey get like positive mind to criticize and comment as we continue whetting our appetites pre-tournament… just somehow, of all the personal solid points I made, you only deem it fit to reference points relating to Ndah vs Bassey. How about you offer your own list let us look at it… that is how healthy minds relate with themselves on forum like this… I rate the lad Olisah Ndah highly, as you already know, the home-based or Africa-based you laugh at today, will be the Europe-based who shut you up tomorrow. If not for the long-term injury Olisah had, you know Sassuolo Football Club of Italy, were already locked in finalising a deal for him before that injury… dude is back again doing wonders at Orlando Pirates, as he was doing before the injury which forced him longterm to the mend-table as all genuine ballfans of Nigeria know… maybe it was his Father Ndubuisi Ndah who bribed one of the most respected team in South africa topflight soccer to buy him and play him week-in… week-out… Olisah Ndah will be a starter for South Africa if he were a citizen of that country… FACTS!!!
Hahahaha, stop trying to be important…this was never meant to be Ndah vs Bassey….the last time I checked, the lead up to this thread was about Eguavoen collecting bribe from certain players to smuggle their names into AFCON lists….LMAOooo.
It was you who brought into the picture a dead-on-arrival debate just to try to cover your client in glory as deserving of a place in a SE list ahead of Bassey
“….somehow you think Calvin Bassey even now is a better player than Olisah Ndah just because he plays for Fulham and Olisah plays for Pirates in SA….”
That was the first direct Ndah vs Bassey confrontation and the last time everyone checked, that wasnt a comment under the name Dr.Drey…..LMAoo.
I patiently wait for the day Ndah will move to Rangers or Ajax or Fulham and shut me up…..the same way Ive been waiting for almost half a decade now for your Kelechi Nwakali to shut me up…..LMAOooo.
Who knows if money exchanged hands to pave the way for his trials in Orlando Pirates before he was eventually signed by the club having come as a freebie……LMAOoo
I’ld have shivered if Olisah Ndah in the SA league was facing strikers of the calibre of the likes of Becker, Seferovic, Kamada, Nkunku, Poulsen, Reus, Bradnt, Toko-Ekambi, Raspadori and the rest of the EPL strikers Bassey has faced and still continues to face week in week out in the highest difficulty level of league football in the world.
No wonder Ndah would have been a starter in SA national team, but cannot even get an invite to the SE unless when brown envelopes exchange hands……LMAOooo
My 27 man Ivory Coast bound warriors. I have a feeling Peseiro will go with 4 goalies
Goalkeepers
Uzoho
Adeleye
Ojo
Nwabali
Defenders
Aina
Bright Osayi
Zaidu
Bruno
Ekong
Ajayi
Bassey
Omeruo
Midfielders
Ndidi
Onyeka /Yusuf
Aribo/Dele Bashiru
Iwobi
Onyedika/Nwakali
Forwards/Attackers
Osimhen
Boniface
Moffi
Sadiq
Musa
Lookman
Tella
Simon
Chukwueze
Iheanacho
PS: I expect a major in the midfield apart from Ndidi and Iwobi the rest will battle it out. I will also probably drop one attacker to accommodate an extra midfielder. However, Boniface, Lookman or Iheanacho can all operate from the midfield.
I believe we have a team to make some noise in Abidjan can they win it? No be me talk am OO!! But if they win it I go take am.
Going with four goalkeepers will be a waste of space. So, I’ll favour the trio of Adeleye, Nwabali, and Obasogie. Second, dropping Ebuehi will be unfair to the hard work the young man has done. So, I’ll add him to the squad, along with Awaziem, and move Osayi-Samuel to the midfield where I believe he is well capable of playing. The nine defenders I favour are: Aina, Ebuehi, Zaidu, Bruno, Ekong, Ajayi, Bassey, Awaziem, and Omeruo. My ideal midfield is Iwobi, Ndidi, Onyeka, Onyedika, Nwakali, and Osayi-Samuel. In the attack, I’ll drop Musa and go with Lookman, Simon, Chukwueze, and Tells as wingers, along with Osimhen, Boniface, Iheanacho, Moffi, and Umar as strikers. Summary: three goalkeepers, nine defenders, six midfielders, and nine forwards.
Please replace Ekong with Awaziem. Also Paul Onuachu deserves a place.
@Ayphillydegreat… responding to your list, this is what I will advocate we go to Abidjan with…
—-Goalkeepers : Nwabali, Adeleye, Uzoho
—-Defenders: Aina, Osayi, Zaidu, Bruno, Umeruo, Awaziem, Bassey, Torunarigha, Ajayi
—-Midfielders: Ndidi, Onyedikachi, Alhassan, Nwakali, Iwobi, Onyeka, Iheanacho
—-Attackers: Osimhen, Boniface, Onuachu, Dessers, Chukwueze, Tella, Simon,Lookman, Sadiq.
I will not go with Aribo, because Ndidi and Iwobi can do his job better, I will not go with Ekong and Musa because they are both not needed, I will list Iheanacho as a midfielder because he can play just behind a point man like Osimhen or Boniface. I will take Onuachu because he is a special player who can guarantee goals once he gets service… he is a poacher the only one in the tight who can decide a game with his special physical presence. I will respond when folks come for me… Lol, I ready.
Folks will kill for Onuachu but I dont care because I have played football and knows what a guy like Onuachu has in his kitty… intelligence and instincts. I choose Dessers ahead of Moffi, because if we need power Osimhen and Boniface are more than capable, Dessers trumps Moffi because he is more technical and intelligent in play.
PS: I will have taken Akpom in a similar role to Iheanacho and will have taken Balogun, if I were to be the coach and in a position of such influence.

Indeed, we know those wey sabi ball. Those wey sabi ball no need to tell anybody say them sabi ball.
So far its Dr.Drey that says it, some people would rather die than agree that the colours of the Nigerian flag are Green and White……LMAOoo
@Dr.Drey… yes, I will choose Olisah Ndah ahead of Calvin Bassey if Ndah was on the provisional list, but it is open for all to realise that it is not every good we have that was in the initial 40man list. Ndah is not there, that is why I have to drawup my list from those available from the listed pool of 40. Do you now see the point…
I am sure by now, you realise that African football is different from European football. Need I remind you of Nigeria 1 vs 1 Lesotho… recently? Or Zimbabwe 1 vs 1 Nigeria also recently? I hope your memory isnt quite lost on how Calvin Bassey fared against Ghana in the playoffs of last year? Ball know im people!!!
Save yourself your face saving excuses…..LMAOoo
Even before the provisional list was ever released, NONE….yes NONE of your hypothetical lineups has had the name Olisah Ndah on it….LMAOoo. Unless you are trying to fool everyone here by trying to be smart by a half, You have REPEATEDLY CHOSEN Bassey over Ndah….LMAooo. I’ve been having a long laugh at it alone for weeks and only decided to poke your attention to it today…..LMAOoo….and hell you didn’t disappoint….LMAOooo
There is always the place of a bit of truth in everyman, that is why the only person a man cannot deceive is himself….LMAOooo
And pls how did your Ndah fare against his fellow homebased Togolese and Cape-Verdean counterparts in the CHAN eagles, not to talk of other shambolic displays at U23 AFCON. Lets not even go near the hogwash display vs Mexico where he couldn’t even identify his required position on the pitch at definite times….LMAOoo.
The fact that the only time he ever got a SE call up was via obvious “Bureau de Change” involvements tells alot.
Like I said before, its not even up for debate. Bassey has been facing the best strikers in Europe for 3 seasons running now…..it was togolese homebased players that undressed your boy at the highest level of football he’s ever played.
Leadership Towards AFCON2023
I noticed a lot of people justified the inclusion of Ahmed Musa because of Leadership not considering that Leadership isn’t by wearing the captain’s band as you are a Leader by capacity and not just a tag.
As such, if we are to talk about Leadership, Leon Balogun should get a BIG NOD over Ahmed Musa and these are my reasons.
1. Leon is in the top form of his life playing 90mins with intimidating match statistics week in and out. His team just won the Scottish League at his club. He is a better Leader, very vocal and knows when to speak. He is definitely one who brings that German discipline to the fore anytime.
2. We will all agree that we need more of the Leadership role at the centre-back (CB) where the younger ones need the confidence and stability a leader brings to the back. A typical example is Osinachi Ohale who has been the Rock of Gilbratar for the Super Falcon and provides the leadership to stabilize the back Four. Her presence alone gives the Girls the needed energy to deliver at maximum capacity.
A Victor Osimhen needs no Musa to score neither a Moses Simon nor Kelechi Iheanacho.
3. Williams Troost-Ekong is already on that team and he has proven to have a solid synergy with his team mates, showing leadership the way it should be.
When these new lads score, he is always waiting on the sidelines to celebrate with them despite not being fielded. I have never seem Musa do the same when he is benched. Go back to watch old clips.
4. As earlier mentioned, we don’t need Musa to provide Leadership upfront – Victor James Osimhen (The New King of Africa) and Kelechi Iheanacho who knows how to bring something out of nothing as seen in recent games are enough to do that needful. I even prefer a Troost-Ekong wearing the badge because I’ve seen how he encourages the younger ones even when he isn’t fielded. That is what Leaders do.
In conclusion, Leon Balogun will better provide a leadership role on the pitch and off, no doubt. Compared to Musa, he is in a fantastic form, plays regularly for his club and churns out intimidating match statistics week in and out. Same cannot be said about Musa.
We are talking about winning AFCON2023 and sentiments will not take us there. What we need are players who can be leaders on the field of play and off the pitch.
What do you think..?
Dessers has the potential to be the best ever foreign striking import ever better than Prso and Morelos if he keeps on scoring
