Former Golden Eaglets star and FC Copenhagen of Denmark forward Akinkunmi Amoo has been sentenced to one-year in prison for sexual assault.
In a Tweet by former BBC World Football reporter, Osasu Obayiuwana, Amoo was sentenced by a Danish court on Friday, June 23, 2023.
However, he stated that Amoo will appeal the court decision.
Also, Obayiuwana posted a statement by a Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet who disclosed the outcome of Friday’s trial.

“This is the outcome of the trial, which has been going on for most of June, where a top player in Danish football has been charged with rape in a sexual relationship other than intercourse, as well as attempted rape and violations of two more women.
“It happens after he was found guilty of all three charges in the Copenhagen District Court by a dissenting magistrate on Friday afternoon, and it was a shaken man who received his sentence as he stood there in the middle of the room and listened to the outcome.
“An unconditional prison sentence for one year.
“In the same case, the name ban in the case was extended because the defense and the convicted appealed the verdict on the spot. Ekstra Bladet protested against the continued name ban, but the court did not accept it.
“It is not known when the appeal will go to court.”
Danish authorities had first brought forward criminal charges against Amoo in April 2022, and then again in July and August 2022.
The 21-year-old was then arrested on September 10, 2022, before being released on bail on October 7.
Amoo was part of the Golden Eaglets squad that finished fourth at the 2019 U-17 AFCON.
Also, he featured at the U-17 World Cup where the Eaglets got knocked out in the round of 16.

Wow… This is deja vu. Etim Ekpo Esin comes to mind. This is so unfortunate…
If this allegation is true, then it’s unfortunate indeed. Players need to learn to keep their thing in their pants. So many have had their careers and lives interrupted because of this. If he is indeed guilty of rape, I have no sympathy for him. Let him go and cool his heels in jail for a little bit. Hopefully, when he gets out, his head will be in the right place.
l deeply regret to know that Amoo that l always love to watch him play for the nation, have been found of committing this heinous crime of multiple rapes. No wonder he has remained out of the Rader for such a long time. What a shame. Amoo has thrown his beautiful and highly rewording career to the dustbin because of sex. Thank God we have Arban to look out for. Hoping gift Urban will not follow Amoo the same way.
Look at this one messing up his career. Discipline is the name of the game. Now, This is a big and unnecessary distraction to his career. He may never get out of it. It’s so unfortunate.
The report says it’s an intended rape… I think it was a nonsexual situation. He did not sex the ladies… it clearly says it was a case that was nonsexual. It he raped any of them he will get close to 5years or more. Black athletes and white ladies are always a slippery slope.
Attempted rape… but he was charged with rape in a non-sexual occurrence. If he was that randy,he should have gotten a girl from back home atleast to live with him as Fiancee… snow bunny hunting. Him taste pink pussy come loose him mind. As long as you a top athlete and black, it’s a slippery slope…
This is just WRONG @JIMMYBALL making a JOKE out of MAN’S MISFORTUNE?
May GOD FORGIVE US ALL…
AMEN!!
Fact is we need to unlearn and learn new things as men. A lot of us grow up saying and doing certain things and we got away with them because we de naija.
Woman no be our property. When woman say NO, she means NO. No touch any woman without consent. just respect women FULL STOP
Na serious crime, if you like try use your religious or cultural belief excuse or justify am. I beg make we de try self educate ourselves
OMG! This is a very young man living in a foreign country alone Life in Europe can be very lonely and calls for a lot of self-discipline.i sympathise with him.
The women could be black or coloured and not white as most people assume. They could even be Nigerian girls on whom he had been spending money like a millionnaire. Worrying is the fact the report mentions 3 women at different times!!!! Is this boy mad?
Don’t trust these useless girls, guys be vigilant, ballers are getting drugged and getting robbed afterwards by these thirsty girls daily, pls all our young men in abroad should be careful. Amoo God will come intervene in ur matter
ONLINE JUDGES una DOO!!!
Must you always take opposite position on issues, Monkey? Or are you trying to justify rape?

@CHIMA when did you LEAVE the PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL?

This is heart wrenching. Many of us were eagerly looking forward to when this guy will recover from his lengthy injury and hit limelight again, but GBAM, see wetin we dey hear. Thinking of it that he got a SE call up before he got injured.
It is well with your souk Amoo.
I heard of this unfortunate incident last year but the news went extinct until now very unfortunate.
A very talented footballer may God give him victory on his appeal but if he’s guilty should do the time and hopefully learn from the experience.
Amoo is still young I’m hoping he will come tops eventually.
I am afraid it is the end of the road for him. In the Western world, having a judgement like rape hanging over your head is a very serious issue. Clubs will avoid him like a plague because of the fear of losing juicy endorsement deals.
It is a tragic end to a once sprouting career. Old habits , they say die hard. He must have been doing these things in Nigeria ( Assuming the allegations are true).
Amoo is just another victim in a well structured trap backed by a one sided foreign law that Favours the satanic instincts of feminism abroad……The list is so long and contains mostly black foreign players who don’t understand the game yet……Amoo you where a slow learner and hopefully you will overcome this and kick on……They will accept his appeal after those greedy things that call themselves women have gotten a substantial amount of money from amoo’s pocket to soften the charges……Amoo will be needing alot of support and love from his family and friends at this trying moment…… Hopefully Amoo will get over this and continue with his career……..This bitches can’t take away your talent, all they need is a share of your money leaving behind a broken and heavy heart for the player to cope with…….Amoo will rise again and even stronger than before.
I smell setup in Amoo’s case . This was what happened to Mason Greenwood, Etim Esin and God knows ehsñ this will end. NFF also disappointed . Another slanted player out to waste . I remember watching him when he was in the Swedish league and he was great . No wonder Bukayo Saka , Tomoru and Abraham chose England over Nigeria . A country that waste talents .
Brother no human being be “THING. We cannot and must never excuse bad behaviour. No be every thing be Satan and i no see anything wrong with my or your mama, daughter or sister having the same privilege as myself so the femiiinistic broadside Na easy card for women basher.
We know a lot of them white and to a lesser degree Arabo no really like us and black buddies are targeted by countries with racist criminal justice system. So I hope he gets off if Na set up but if he truly did the crime, then he needs to do the time so he go learn. we need to be accountable for the things we do, no be to de keep blaming Satan, Monkey, Snake, dead people, etc
When a young player suddenly starts having constant injury, you only have peep into their closet to find the answer. There is talent and also there is professionalism. Majority of Nigeria born footballers have the former but lack the latter, reason they come to Europe, perform in one season and suddenly fade into thin air afterwards. It’s such a shame he may just not play football into his prime.
He should have consulted president Tinubu for mentoring, do plea bargain disappear into the thin air and appear to be the next NFF president or better still CAF president, if anyone has an issue with it let them go to court.
Like the jailed former senate deputy president.
It’s really unfortunate how terrible and disgusting some quacks on this forum go about their selective attacks.
In the western world, rape is a serious issue and the fact the penalty is a one year term suggests that Amoo could be innocent of the charge.
CSN needw todo a better job, they are getting sued for character assassination..
