Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi hopes he can help Kaizer Chiefs secure a spot in the continent after completing an 18- month move to the club, reports Completesports.com.
Akpeyi, 32, linked up with the Amakhosi from another ABSA Premier League side, Chippa United on transfer deadline day as replacement for the injured Itumeleng Khune who is ruled out for the rest of the season.
Kaizer Chiefs currently occupy sixth position in the PSL table with 27 points from 19 games and Akpeyi who still has ambition to compete in CAF club competition believes Amakhosi are capable of providing such a platform for him.
“That’s one thing I was looking forward to doing in South Africa – playing in the Champions League,” Akpeyi who was in Nigeria’s squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia told Kaizer Chief’s official website.
“Chiefs have the will and the quality to do well in Africa and I would like to contribute to do that.”
Akpeyi who recorded 36 clean sheets in 104 appearances across all competitions since his arrival in the PSL back in July 2015, looks set to make his debut for his new club in the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates this weekend and is already looking forward to the big test.
“It’s one of the most famous derbies in the world. Just to be part of that experience will be something fantastic, independent of if I play or not,” he remarked.
