Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has moved to provide an update on exciting running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who suffered a leg injury earlier this month. The young talent racked up 945 rushing yards in his rookie season, grabbing ten touchdowns, and has been sidelined since the spring, but apparently, there is nothing to worry about in terms of any long-term spell out for the 22-year-old.
There are also minor injury concerns relating to Ennis Rakestraw and Terrion Arnold, but again, Campbell has looked to quell any concerns about long-term issues, stating,
“I think we’re going to be fine here, I think we’ll be good,” Campbell calmly stated on these knocks and Lions fans who are excited about what their team can achieve in 2024 might want to back Detroit with a wager. “I would say the more you learn about a player and the faster you figure out what they can do, the better off it is for everybody,”
“We already felt like this kid was going to have the ability to play special teams. So now it’s like, ‘Well, can you use him on offense? Is there a place?’ Campbell concluded.
The Detroit Lions start their campaign by hosting the Los Angeles Rams at home and then take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field before traveling to face the Arizona Cardinals and then entertaining the Seattle Seahawks on home soil, an opening series of games that will certainly give Campbell a good idea of just what his team can achieve this season.
That narrow loss to the 49ers is something that Campbell hopes the team can build from, commenting that,
“It starts with me and the coaches. I’ve made that point from day one once we got back from San Francisco that our enemy is complacency and entitlement. The players know that. We hit that head on. We talk about it. It’s all about putting the work back in. Our work speaks for itself, not our reputation, not anything else.” Campbell commented.
Indeed, the pressure will always be on the Lions given that they are still without a title in the modern Super Bowl era, though Campbell is very much the man to help get them to the next step.
