Nigerian international Brown Ideye believes the current Super Eagles lack real leadership that will help propel the team to a higher level.
Ideye made this known in an X-space conversation hosted by The Naija Football Conference, where he noted that the absence of a genuine leader in the present Super Eagles team is evident.
The former West Bromwich Albion star noted that the current Super Eagles players lack passion and spirit of nationalism and are not desperate to defend the colours of Nigeria.

“A leader has to be someone who has been in that team for years and years. In the present Super Eagles, we don’t have those players like Enyeama and Yobo anymore,” Ideye stated.
“Who do you want to give a leader, Ekong? It’s not about having the captain’s armband. Can Ekong sit Osimhen, Chukwueze, and Lookman down and speak to them? No.
“I don’t see Osimhen sitting down with Ekong and hearing everything he has to say without saying something back.”

That’s true.
The issue is indiscipline, not leadership. These pack of players lack discipline and commitment, simple!
Indiscipline reigns where there is lack of leadership.
Ever heard that “where there’s no law, there’s no sin”…?!
It was some forward ITKs on this forum who advocated excomunication of older players from the SE in order to gramt free visa to so-called younger players who cannot even displace them on a normal day.
They almost succeded in adding Ekong to their list until Peserio allowed common sense to reign and brought him back to the team in time for the last AFCON. The rest they say is history.
Imagine if a player like Leon Balogun or Odion Ighalo was still in this team…….?! Those brats wouldn’t be having a field day as they’re having now.
NFF is the main problem. If anyone faults Ekong’s leadership during the last AFCON, then the person is clueless about the meaning of leadership. No matter who wears the SE captain’s armband, as long the NFF continues with their nonsense, a captain cannot assume his rightful position. Without a doubt, a captain who functions under Pesseiro will be more effective than a captain who functions under a directionless coach like Finidi. Bring all your Mikel and Yobo under Finidi’s clueless setup and they will be rubbished. The bottom line is, why was Finidi appointed in the first place?
