Cameroon beat Ivory Coast 1-0 on Tuesday evening to qualify for the play-off round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers as winners in Group D.
Karl Toko Ekambi scored for the hosts with a close range shot in the 21st minute at Japoma Stadium in Douala.
Cameroon finished on 15 points from six games, two points ahead of the Elephants who went into the match leading the group by a point over the Indomitable Lions.
A draw for the visitors would have been enough to take them through to the final play-off round for a place at the World Cup finals in Qatar 2022.
On the other hand, Cameroon needed an win in the game to sail through and they got the job done.
Côte d’Ivoire also missed out on qualification for the 2018 editor held in Morocco.
In the group’s other game Mozambique ended the World Cup qualifiers on a high after beating Malawi 1-0 at Matheu Kerekou Stadium in Benin.
Malawi defender and skipper Limbikani Mzava’s 51stminute own goal settled the contest.
Mozambique moved off the bottom of the table on four points with Malawi, who had beaten the Mambas by a similar margin in the first leg, finishing bottom on three points.

The Ivorians played their heart out but was unfortunate not to score a goal despite creating numerous goalscoring opportunities.
It was a very interesting game,it gave me an idea what to expect in Cameroon 2022 Afcon and world cup third round playoffs respectively.
I don’t pray we meet Cameroun, because they have a good coach. The same with Egypt, Morocco, Ghana and Algeria. Those coaches are top top not our own Barcelona kit man Ball Boy coach.
CIV is a very talented side.
So much talent in the squad.
It’s a shame they didn’t make it.
That’s the danger inherent in needing a point in an away game, especially against a side like Cameroon.
Nigeria escaped elimination by the skin of the teeth against CV.
Preparations must now begin for the arduous final round.
Let us just pray for the players to be in form and also to be a good day for the players on that day, even if we meet same Cameron and our players are not in form or the team had a bad day,no formation will work for the team.a bad day amyday for any team is a horrible day in the world of football. For instance Liverpool vs AC Milan in one of the past UEFA champions League Finals, the Italians had a bad day.not that Liverpool out played the Italians but just because it was a bad day your the Italians.from 3goals up to 3-3 and eventually penalties. So bad day could rubbish any player and any team.
So it is open to any team be it our team or our would be opponent
So our coach should do his homework because he seems to be satisfied with Ekong and Balogun defense pairing.l have said it this two players MAY not deliver because they both have individual shortcomings, Ekong is never a consistent player (never TARIBO like player)Balogun is also never pact.so the coach should scout for pacy defenders and start using them before Major tournaments.
So my conclusion is our players should be in form, hope on favourable day,and coach Rohr should do his homework.
Why would caf self put two strong team in the same group in the first place??? This will affect us at the world cup…Would have love to see CIV at the world cup. Same as Cameroon. Don’t want some weak team there. Africa,we need good showing and good representation at the world cup. At least at the end I want us to be able to beat our chest that we came, saw and tried.#OneAfrica
This same coach beat same Cameroon,Algeria and inform Zambia to qualification for the last edition. Pathetic people easily forget great time but now that things are a little bit different they start attacking the coach because he is not beating every team as if it is Nigeria birth right to winning every match. As for those jittery of next stage thought they said Nigeria will not made it out of the group that is how it will down on u when eagles eventually qualify but Una go still complain say then no play well
May God bless you!
You spoke my mind!
Up Rohr!
Up Super Eagles!!
