Sergio Conceiçao: “I picked Milan with one goal in mind – lifting the Champions League trophy!”

Every passing day brings a fresh set of challenges for Sergio Conceição, yet he has no regrets about opting for AC Milan come late December. Despite only two matches under his belt, both played in Riyadh, he has already clinched a piece of silverware—the Italian Super Cup. Triumphing over both Juventus and Inter in the process, he remarked, "I sought to compete in one of the strongest leagues in the world. My dream and goal is to lift the Champions League, which is why I joined this club. I'm acutely aware of the hurdles I would face, stepping into a team I didn’t pick, lacking training time, and being under pressure to secure victories. However, this historic club offers the chance to realise one of my career ambitions after achieving great success in Portugal," he told attendees at the Coimbra Football Congress 2025. Conceição further elaborated, "In the span of 30 days, we've played nine matches, leaving little room for proper training. This is immensely challenging and hampers my ability to imprint my identity on the squad. After our Super Cup win against Inter, we drew with Cagliari due to an individual mistake, as often happens. Since then, speculation around new managers taking the reins has exploded." Indeed, the Portuguese coach's comments ring true as the club on Via Aldo Rossi gears up for yet another transformation following their 19th league title triumph in 2022. For the upcoming season, Fabio Paratici is set to join as sporting director, while Massimiliano Allegri is anticipated to return as manager.
