Devastating Blow for Dybala: Major Tendon Injury Requires Surgery, Season of Dreams Over!

Roma's Dybala Set for Surgery: A Season Cut Short

Roma has confirmed that Paulo Dybala is set to undergo surgery in the coming days due to a left semitendinosus tendon injury. The club released a statement following the Argentine's unfortunate knock during last Sunday’s match against Cagliari, when he sustained the injury while attempting a backheel. Medical staff urged Dybala to opt for this route, explaining that without surgery, he risked long-term damage that could jeopardise his career, as conservative treatment wouldn’t suffice.

The operation, which is deemed complex given the tendon has ruptured in two places, means he’ll be out for the season, with a recovery time projected at a minimum of three months. The goal is to have him ready for the July training camp, aiming for a return to action in August. The procedure is tentatively scheduled for either Monday or Tuesday next week, with Switzerland, Finland, or even the United States being considered as suitable locations (though the latter option is unlikely).

It was a mutual decision made in consultation with both the player and the club’s medical team, despite Dybala's initial preference to avoid surgery. “Wishing Paulo a swift recovery – we’re counting on you!” the club stated in their announcement.

Rising to the Challenge

With Dybala sidelined, it’s a crucial moment for his teammates, particularly for Soulé as they prepare for important clashes against Juventus and Lazio.

Dybala's Message

“Dear friends, first of all, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support you always show me,” Dybala expressed. “After reviewing the tests and considering the options, I decided to proceed with the surgery to return to the pitch as soon as possible. Though I’ll be away from the field for a while, I’ll be supporting my Roma teammates during this vital part of the season and cheering for our national team as a fan during the qualification matches. I’ll be back stronger, I promise. Forza Roma and Vamos Argentina!”
