Like the saying “form is temporal but class is permanent”, this was the summary of the superiority act displayed by football team of Complete Communications Limited, publishers of Complete Sports, Nigeria’s number one sports daily, in the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Cup on Monday.
The 2021 Lagos SWAN Cup kicked off with media organisations in the state vying for the coveted trophy.
In the first game, the former back-to-back champions faced Inspiration FM 92.3 and were merciless as the Julius Ojeagbase-captained team humbled their opponent 4-1.
Inspired by their name, Inspiration FM came into the tie with a lot of energy and scored first through Felix Egbomuche early in the encounter at the Legacy pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

However, their inspiration quickly became despair as the former champions retaliated with four goals in grand style.
Michael Ekezie equalized for Complete Sports before Ojeagbase put us in the lead.
Afterwards, two well-taken goals from Kunle Lawal deflated any hope of a comeback nurtured by the radio station.
In the second game of the day, your number one sports daily made light work of Megalectrics who were spanked again despite losing their first match.
Complete Sports scored three first-half goals to compound Megalectrics’ woes and dent their chances of progressing to the next round.
Again, the star of the game was Kunle Lawal who bagged a brace for his fourth goal in two matches.
He opened the scoring against the resilient opponent who had no answer to the sumptuous football orchestrated by a superior side.
Nuhu Salau netted the second goal for his first of the competition to put the game beyond the opponent, before Lawal tapped into an open goal after a build-up that professional footballers would acknowledge with applaud.
Complete Sports won the competition in 2012, 2017 and 2018.
Voice of Nigeria are the currently holders of the Bet9ja/Lagos SWAN Cup.

Up! Up!! Up!!! Our own CSN, UP you go.
Julius Ojeagbase side did a nice job, well commendable. Apart from exercising their bodies, it was when Debo Oshundun, said the unique event is a celebration of friendship, a healthy lifestyle, and camaraderie as people are gradually getting their lives back after the COVID-19 pandemic, that I realized that other associations should learn from this.
He went thus “We will be coming together once again as a unit to demonstrate how much we value and appreciate the vision of our founding fathers on whose shoulders we stand today”. This is wonderful.
@Timothy, I used to think that footballers are different from sports writers till I went to watch the legacy pitch to see matches. Not just Julius Ojeagbase some of the Sports players like Kunle Lawal, Nuhu Salah are as good as being on coach Rohr’s list for Afcon, there’s no joke about this. More of this SWAN.
I’m a fan of the 92.3 Inspiration FM being borne out of the need to inspire Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 50 to live their dreams and achieve their potentials. Thhe moment they entered into the tie with a lot of energy and even scored the first through Felix Egbomuche, my joy knew no bound but this was short-lived as CSN quickly countered to cancel out Felix’s goal and went ahead to win the tie. As a good sports fan, congrats to the CSN and the SPORTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA for organizing the event.
