Northamptonshire have extended the loan spell of Essex all-rounder Matt Coles until the end of this season’s T20 Blast. The Steelbacks signed the 29-year-old former Kent, Hampshire and England Lions bowler at the start of June. He has made four County Championship appearances and featured in six T20 fixtures to date.

Coles had his first loan spell extended by another month in mid-July and will now stay until the end of the T20 Blast on August 30, as Northants look to qualify for the knockout stages via the North group.
Assistant coach Phil Rowe spoke highly of Coles when the club clinched his services. He said: “He’s a talented all-round cricketer. He’s a player we’ve admired for a number of years, he’s a big character and brings a big personality.”
