Burnley reportedly look set to miss out on Joakim Maehle and Ruslan Malinovskyi this summer. The Clarets were linked with a £19million double swoop for the Racing Genk pair earlier this week. Malinovskyi was being linked with a £12million move to Turf Moor but he instead joined Atalanta in Serie A on Wednesday.
Burnley chiefs had still been hoping to sign Maehle but it appears Genk are now going to stand firm with that deal. Burnley had been hoping to pay £7million for his services after he impressed at this summer’s European Under-21 Championship for Denmark. Boss Sean Dyche saw Maehle as another option at right-back, with Matt Lowton and Phil Bardsley currently in his squad.
Southampton tried to sign the defender in January but all bids were rejected by the Belgian outfit. When asked about the speculation, Maehle said earlier this summer: “I’m not going to say that I wasn’t interested. “This was a nice proposal from a big club from a top competition. But at the same time, I have full understanding of Genk’s point of view.

“They have also been very clear from the beginning: in this winter market all starters remain on board. “I can only respect that. Because let me make it clear: I am still very happy here.”
