Burnley have joined the race to sign Gary Cahill on a free transfer and are set to offer him £30,000 a week. The former England international could be brought into the club as cover for the usual pairing of James Tarkowski and Ben Mee as Sean Dyche continues to try and add quality to his squad at Turf Moor.

After ending his eight-year spell at Chelsea, Cahill is now a free agent and can join up with anyone for the new season. Most recently he has been linked with Fulham but the chance to play Premier League football tempt him back to Lancashire, having previously played at Bolton.
Earlier in the summer, the 33-year-old said he was hoping to find another club in the Premier League: “I’m confident that potentially I might stay in the league but I want to wait and see, take the decision over the summer. “I’ve got a lot of time to think about things and hopefully make the right decision. I can’t wait to get back playing next season. I’m looking forward to that.”
