Ahead of Sunday’s AFCON 2019 semifinal showdown against the Desert Foxes of Algeria, Super Eagles’ winger Samuel Chukwueze says he and teammates are not scared of their opponent, reports Completesports.com.
Algeria, who defeated Nigeria to win their only AFCON title on home soil in 1990, are the overwhelming favourites to lift the trophy in Egypt amongst the four remaining teams left in the competition.
Djamel Belmadi’s men are yet to lose a game and conceded for the first time in the competition in their quarterfinal win against the Elephants of Cote d’l voire which they won 4-3 on penalties after it ended 1-1 in open play.
However despite Algeria’s current form, Chukwueze insists that the Super Eagles have what it takes to win the semifinal match.
“Algeria is a good team, but we are not scared of them. We can’t be scared of any team at this stage of the competition,” the Villarreal winger told Completesports.com.
“It is true that a lot of people have tipped them to win the trophy, but we will prove them wrong on Sunday.
“We saw their game against Ivory Coast. It was an interesting game between two top quality teams. For us, we are not afraid, they are beatable. ”
The Super Eagles defeated the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 2-1 in the quarterfinal on Wednesday to secure a berth in the last four.

Our super eagles should please tripple their efforts and beat Algeria..we can’t allow them to insult us at this stage
As a patrotic Nigerian, it will be good for Nigeria to win Algeria. But the revelation l had was something else! In that revelation, l saw the semi-final match against Algeria been played and Nigeria was struggling to score a goal to avoid defeat. It’s like the goal did not come. I did the needful by praying for Nigeria victory and cancelled that dream for good when l woke up. So,pray for God’s favour and mercy for Nigeria to win. The race is not for he that willeth or runneth but God that showeth mercy.
God will favour us and the players will get the job done…Luck is already on our side against Algeria tomorrow…
Let’s all support our Super Eagles with prayers. I believe!
