Home-based Super Eagles head coach Salisu Yusuf is confident his team will secure a place at the 2023 Africa Nations Championship in Algeria.
The Home Eagles lost 2-0 to the Black Galaxies of Ghana in the first leg of their final qualifiying round fixture last weekend.
Both teams will clash in the reverse fixture on Saturday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
The Eagles will need to score three unreplied goals without conceding to overcome the Ghanaians.

“What is past is past and that is the case with the match we played in Ghana. Now we are looking forward to a good match on Saturday,” Yusuf stated.
“We are doing all we need to do to achieve our utmost desire to be in Algeria next year. There may have been one or two lapses that caught us on the bad end in Cape Coast but we can’t continue to dwell on that. We want to achieve a good result on Saturday.”
Yusuf, who is on a very familiar terrain, says that the team that will go out on Saturday may not be radically different from the line-up he featured in the first leg.
“It is going to be more like 88 to 90 percent of the team we presented in Ghana last Sunday. Remember that Sadiq Abubakar was injured in a moment we thought should have produced a penalty kick for us. He has not recovered fully and so may not feature.”

It’s going to be very difficult to go through but not impossible.
Good-Luck
If u want to beat Ghana. Watch Nigeria vs Zimbabwe under bnonfere in Lagos and use the tip .
Gained. Call me after the match.
Take as many shots as possible and avoid thinking only of working the ball into the net. Don’t be decieved by the not too impressive display by the Ghanian team in the first leg. They are a good side but can be beaten by the home based Eagles, who also didn’t do too badly except for the lazy attackers lacking ideas.
We don’t ve the players in our league to win this match, Ghana will beat them again or a draw, those players looks so old, lazy with no skills at all. The Yeye coach should go the academy for younger and more skillful players for this match, hopefully is not too late.Weeks ago I called the Yeye coach pay and play coach some jokers here in the forum went on attack against me, some said the coach is the best local coach, I’m willing to beat anyone supporting the sambisa fc coach here in this forum, Ghana will beat them again or a draw.
The NIGERIAN side wasn’t bad at all! They played well in the first half!! In the second half, their midfield broke down but they had some talented players in their mist!
Is Salisu Yusuf On A Wide Goose Chase?
Forever tainted (in the eyes of many Nigeria fans) with the tar of bribery brush scandal, Coach Salisu Yusuf is hoping to redeem his image somewhat by masterminding an incredible comeback for his Chan(less) Super Eagles.
The 60 year old Zaria born tactician couldn’t prevent his hastily assembled side from going down to a potentially unassailable 2:0 hit job away to Ghana in the first leg play off for the 2023 CHAN qualifiers last weekend.
He is now priming his team for a “good match” in the second leg tomorrow.
“Now we are looking forward to a good match on Saturday; We want to achieve a good result,” stated this discredited coach.
I don’t mind Salisu Yusuf at all. I think he is a very good coach tactically who carelessly got himself muddled up in a senseless bribery scandal – something that has the tendency to overshadow whatever he does, no matter how “good”.
The performance of the home based Super Eagles in the first leg was not subpar but still inadequate. They kept the ball in the part of the pitch that posed little problems to Ghana whilst letting their guard down twice defensively. In truth, Ghana could have easily scored 1 more goal.
To get the “good results” Salisu alluded to, his team will need to be anything but “good”. They will need to be brutal!
Ghana aren’t in town to hand out Christmas presents.
Salisu’s Eagles will have to be deadly up front, tight in midfield and ruthless in their pursuit of a clean sheet at the back.
But in Ghana they have a disciplined, well prepared and well drilled opponents who are well aware of the posterity magnitude of the occasion beyond the immediate assignment.
For me, Nigeria are the clear underdogs, a narrative that Salisu is not using to his advantage. Coaches like Gernot Rohr would have attempted to lure Ghana to a false sense of superiority by framing Nigeria as the underdogs due to our short preparation time.
Mind games are part and parcel of the game but I haven’t seen Salisu employ this tactic.
I guess he is focusing on his strategy, rehearsed routines, formation and his players’ application to do most of the talking. That being the case, it will be interesting to see how he brings his team out of the dead tomorrow.
If he does pull it off, his new nickname will be Lazarus. As for me, I won’t be holding my breath!
