John Mikel Obi had a birthday to forget as Middlesbrough were handed a 3-0 defeat by Nothingham Forest in their Championship clash on Monday at the City Ground Nothingham, reports Completesports.com.
Mikel, leading Boro as captain, played the entire 90 minutes of the game and was helpless as Joe Lolley netted twice and Alexander Milosevic scored one for the home team.
The result put a dent on Middlesbrough’s aspiration of securing a play-off place at the end of the campaign.
Mikel who linked up with Tony Pulis’ men on a short-term deal in January has made 17 appearances for the club.
At the Bet365 Stadium, Stoke City forced their visitors Norwich City to a 2-2 draw with Nigeria international Oghenekaro Etebo in full action for the home team.
Onel Hernandez put Norwich City ahead in the 24th minute, while Ashley Williams equalised for the Potters two minutes after the break.
Norwich City regained the lead in the 66th minute through Teemu Pukki.
Thomas Edwards ensured the home team got a share of the spoils when he equalised three minutes later.
Etebo has featured in 33 Championship games this season with two goals to his name.
Semi Ajayi’s Rotherham United suffered a setback in their battle to escape the drop following a 3-1 home loss to Birmingham City.
The afternoon started on a brighter note when Matty Brooks opened scoring for the hosts in the 26th minute, but they conceded thrice in the second half to leave the game empty handed.
Ajayi who received a yellow card in the fifth minute has scored seven goals in 45 appearances for the Millers.
