Chuba Akpom continued his impressive scoring run as he netted in Middlesbrough’s 3-1 win at Birmingham City in the English Championship on Monday, Completesports.com reports.
Akpom is now the top scorer in the second division with 13 goals this season.
Also, the 27-year-old former Arsenal striker has scored five goals in his last five Championship games for Middlesbrough.
Against Birmingham, Akpom got his side’s third goal on 85 minutes after receiving a pass, rounded the keeper before rolling into the bottom corner.

After a goalless first half, Matt Crooks gave Middlesbrough the lead on 57 minutes as he nodded home Jonny Howson’s cross.
Just two minutes after the opener, Crooks made it 2-0 as he pounced on a poor touch to finish off.
Birmingham pulled a goal back in the 74th minute through former Manchester United player Tahith Chong.
Akpom was withdrawn with one minute left for Paddy McNair.
The win against Birmingham saw Middlesbrough move up to fifth on 39 points in the league standings.

COACH PASEIRO SHOULD ALWAYS BE INVITING PLAYERS BASE ON THEIR POTENTIALS NOT BY SCORING GOALS ALONE. FOR instance: ONUACHU is scoring goals but he doesn’t have more potential than others strikers. Another GOOD EXAMPLE is AMOKACHI ( he has great potential but not scoring more goals like YEKINI)
*** THE RATING OF PRESENT SUPER EAGLE PLAYERS BASED ON THEIR POTENTIALS (not by scoring goals alone) ***
1. V. OSIMHEN
2. T. MOFFI
3. C. AKPOM
4. C. DESSERS
5. S. UMAR
6. A. FOLARIN
7. H. ONYEKURU
8. K. MAJA
9. K. MAJA
10. P. ONUACHU
11. K. IHEANACHO
12. O. IWUALA

When a striker have more POTENTIAL there is tendency for other players AT THE FRONT to score goals
Chuba Akpom Chubby Pommy. You are going places. The Super Eagles will benefit from your good form. I n I have always believed in your potential.
Heaven bless Akpom and all deserving Super Eagles players.
You cleverly spoke my mind on the issue of Anayo Iwuala, a fantastic wing player with amazing goal scoring ability, who’s has paid his dues in the Nigeria league, as one of the breakout stars of the league some years back.
One would think that with his exploits and the form he showed while in SE camp under the watch Genot Rohr, he would be further given a look in but sadly the young man talents were overlooked for Europe based players like Chukwueze, Simon Moses, Lookman…. I think most time we do a lot of disservice to our homegrown talents when show so much preference for the Europe based stars at their expense.
I know Iwuala made a move to North African league on the strength of his brilliant performance in the league but we need to follow up on his brilliant performance….
The young man reminds of a certain Julius Ahgahowa who went to Esperance of Tunisia where he excelled brilliantly and became the toast of the SE….
We should not overlook his talents like we did Junior Ajayi, who at a time became a household name in Ah Ahly of Egypt but was forgotten after one or two SE invites.
There are several young players in Nigeria giving their bit but never got a change to showcase their prodigious talents because of the craze for players of dual nationality. We need to create standards….
Below is an excerpt from an article I wrote last year on strikers, wingers and centre forwards available to Jose Peseiro:
“” 9) Anayo Iwuala (Esperance): the once posterboy of NPFL representation in the Super Eagles, Anayo cashed in on his Super Eagles status to swap the Nigerian league for the Tunisian top flight. This step up in quality of the league effectively served as the death nail on his Super Eagles prospects.
Now no longer ‘homebased’, playing in Tunisia does not provide ‘continued justification’ for his Super Eagles invitation.
However, should the 24 year old winger paint the Tunisian league green with goals next season, who knows, Peseiro might yet extend a shock invitation to him. After all, Iwuala is a decent winger.””
Under Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles should be able to play a free flowing, fast, attractive and high intensity brand of football should he be allowed free hand to select players who can translate his philosophy into workable practice on the pitch.
Can Nigeria win trophies with this approach? I am not too sure. I think a successful coach has to balance adventure and risk taking with a measure of pragmatism.
Peseiro, from what I have seen, practices brinkmanship. But does he know the right time for his team to apply the breaks?
I guess we have to wait and see but he doesn’t come across to me as a waste of space.

I beg, this is year 2023. The sudden hype of Iwuala. If na play, make you people stop am I beg.
From the stats, the lowest performer among them is the most wanted in the European market as we speak which is Chukwueze.
Liverpool, Aston Villa etc. so stop your hyping and allow coach to select his players I beg.,
May be in the nearest future, you can extend invitations to Iwuala and Junior Ajayi and co. Make una work hard, e go reach your turn.
No1, He plays in a Lower league compare to Others, even the Algerians don’t settle anymore for players in their league.
No2, His stats is not so special compare to the players that are playing in better leagues.
Olisa Ndah is already working his way to Italy (Sassuolo) small small, that’s the player that knows what he’s doing.
