Wilfred Ndidi opened his goals account for the season as Leicester City thrashed lower division club Tranmere Rovers 4-0, in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
Also on target for the Foxes was summer signing Jordan Ayew, who assisted Ndidi’s goal.
Ndidi scored in the 71st minute to put Leicester 3-0 while Ayew opened the scoring on 38 minutes.
Stephy Mavididi made it 2-0 from the penalty spot on 51 minutes while Harry Winks got the fourth goal in the 90th minute.
Ndidi was later replaced in the 72nd minute by Will Alves.
In another Carabao Cup encounter, Alex Iwobi was in action for Fulham who sealed a 2-0 win at Birmingham.
Iwobi’s Nigerian teammate Calvin Bassey did not feature as he was an unused substitute.
Other results saw Crystal Palace hammer Norwich City 4-0 with Eberechi Eze getting on the score sheet, Watford beat Plymouth 2-0, QPR edged Luton on penalties after regulation time ended 1-1, Everton beat Doncaster 3-0 and Stoke trounced Middlesbrough 5-0.
Ndidi, Iwobi and Bassey have been invited for next weekend’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
The duo were among the 23-man squad announced on Tuesday for the double header fixtures.
