Alex Iwobi was in action for Fulham who lost on penalties to lowly division club Preston North End in round 3 of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
After 90 minutes ended 1-1, Preston then went on to win a dramatic 16-15 penalty marathon.
Iwobi was introduced into the game with 13 minutes left while Calvin Bassey was an unused substitute.
Ryan Ledson gave Preston the lead in the 35th minute before Reiss Nelson equalised for Fulham on 61 minutes.
In the shootout, Iwobi converted his own spot kick but Jorge Cuenca and Timothy Castagne missed for Fulham.
At Goodison Park, Joe Aribo featured for Southampton who also needed penalties to edge Everton.
Southampton triumphed 6-5 from the spot kicks after 90 minutes ended 1-1.
Aribo was successful from the spot but in sudden death Ashley Young missed while James Bree scored to send the Saints into the next round.
The biggest scoreline of the night saw Manchester United hammer Barnsley 7-0 at Old Trafford.
Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen each scored two goals while Antony scored one.
