Taiwo Awoniyi failed convert his spot kick as Nottingham Forest lost to Newcastle on penalties in round 2 of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
The game was decided via penalties which Newcastle won 4-3 after regulation time ended 1-1.
With the shootout tied at 3-3 Awoniyi missed Forest’s fifth kick while Sean Longstaff converted his to send Newcastle into the next round.
Newcastle got off to the perfect start after former Arsenal star Joe Willock opened the scoring.
With five minutes into the second half Forest equalised thanks to a strike from Jota Silva.
Awoniyi’s Nigerian international Ola Aina was not in action for Forest in the Cup tie.
In another Carabao Cup second round fixture, Joe Aribo did not feature for Southampton in their 5-3 win away to Cardiff City.
