Legendary Cameroon skipper Rigobert Song has been named the new head coach of the Indomitable Lions.
Song’s appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Minister, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
He replaces Portuguese coach Toni Conceicao who had led the Indomitable Lions to a third-place finish at AFCON 2021.

Song’s first assignment is the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Algeria who crashed out in the group stage of last AFCON.
He led Cameroon to two AFCONs titles in Ghana/Nigeria 2000 and Mali 2002.
At the 2003 FIFA Confederation Cup he skippered Cameroon to the final where they lost 1-0 to France in the final.
Also, he represented his country at four World Cups in 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2010.

No, I think this was government interference. Etoo as FECAFOOT president had no hand in it. Report says Song’s appointment was a direct order from their despotic, life president Paul Biya, which is why it was the sports ministry that announced the sudden appointment and not FECAFOOT.
They disrespectfully by-passed Etoo and undermined his position. There might be a collision with FIFA and also Etoo. Will Etoo and Song have a smooth working relationship? Will Song see and accord Etoo respect as his boss (even though in reality, it should be the reverse)?
I suspect that if Etoo openly disagrees and expresses his displeasure with Song or the appointment, he will likely be eased out via high-level sports politics puppeteered by the government. Currently, he has been effectively rendered a lame duck president.
Since Cisses led Senegal to the Afcon trophy this year, Cameroon seemed to have been flirting with the idea of having a rugged, rasta version of their own in charge of their team too. But unlike Cisse, I doubt Song has the capacity to lead the team to glory. In fact, I have a feeling Algeria will beat them to the World Cup ticket this month.
. See Song’s profile…. The one purported to be better than Amuneke Oga, lol.

Thanks for the information some gullible mumu would’ve just been misled. Records, mostly internet archives never lie. I wish Rigonert Song a successful reign but not at the detriment of Nigeria. God bless Nigerians.

Bobs Martins, are you sure of this facts?
Bob is right on point, Eguavoen also coached some South Africa teams at the time Song was still playing for the indomitable Lions.
No comments sir. Silence is best ….
Better remain silent than to rushing to make irrelevant post. Congrats
Song would’ve done it.
Nobody tells me who to congratulate or what to post. Get that into your skull…
Is this the best pix of Song compltesports could get? He is too unkept. Native doctor abi.
What do you mean “UNKEPT”
Congratulations cameroonians for believing in your own. We all saw the expatriate failed to win Afcon Gold despite the numbers of years he trained the Lions. Local coaches all the way.
It is good that more countries are coping Nigeria in installing a domestic coach.
Correction..’copying Nigeria
How is any African Country copying Nigeria?
South Africa almost never hire a foreign coach, Egypt has an Egyptian as coach of the team 80% of the time same as Algeria, Tunisia, Sudan, Libya and Morocco.
The Senegalese coach “Aliou Cissé” was appointed in March 2015.
So tell me how any other African countries copied Nigeria.
Coping Nigeria ??????????
this is big mistake for cameroun not the time they want to take on algeria for qualifier?? they sohuld have leave the potuguse guy to finish the qualifier.
