Former Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie has hailed Edo Queens following their dramatic win against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
Debutant, Edo Queens, needed at least a draw in their final Group B game to progress into the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.
It was a must win game for Mamelodi Sundowns who recorded a win and a defeat in their opening two group games.
The South Africans then took the lead in the 24th minute through Melinda Kgadiete.
In the 95th minute Emem Essien made it 1-1 before Mary Mamudu netted the winner in 11 minutes of added time.
Reacting to the dramatic win, Oparanozie wrote on X:”2 goals after 90 minutes. Na Edo Queens dey run am. Naija champions indeed. I’m proud of this team.”
Edo Queens, on seven points, topped the group while Sundowns who finished third on three points crash out.
Egyptian club FC Masar, who are also debutant, had seven points and finished second to progress into the semi-finals and Ethiopia’s CBE was bottom with no point.
Edo Queens will now take on AS FAR in the semi-finals on November 19 While Masar will face DR Congo’s TZ Mazembe.
