Emem Essien was named Player of the Match after helping Edo Queens come from a goal down to beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1, in their final Group B game of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League on Saturday.
Essien was instrumental as she started the comeback by equalising in the 95th minute.
Melinda Kgadiete had given Sundowns the lead in the 24th minute in a must win game for them.
It was Essien’s second goal of the tournament after also getting on the score sheet when Edo Queens thrashed Ethiopia’s CBE.
Then in the 11th minute of second half stoppage time Mamudu grabbed the winner for the Nigerian women’s league champions who now advance to the semi-finals.
Edo Queens are making their debut at this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.
