Ahead of Burundi’s first game at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations against the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Alexandria Stadium on Saturday, head coach of the Swallows, Olivier Niyungeko, says they’re not afraid of the three-time African champions, reports Completesports.com.
The Swallows who were unbeaten in the qualifiers will be up against a Super Eagles side that is full of established stars who ply their trade with notable clubs across Europe.
But Niyungeko remains optimistic that his charges can stun their well established counterparts in the Group B encounter.
“It’s a tough group, but we have no fear. I believe that every team in the Group is equal and we have prepared well. We have to show it,” Niyungeko said in his post-match media conference at the Alexandria Stadium on Friday.
“We will be facing Nigeria without fear. I have been able to work on my defence and made us hard to beat which was why we were able to remain unbeaten throughout our qualifiers.”
The encounter which is billed to take place at the Alexandria Stadium will kick-off at 6pm Nigerian time.
The Syli Nationale and Barea of Madagascar will face each other at the same venue in the other Group B encounter also on Saturday, at 9pm Nigerian time.

this defence block will injure super eagle ooh. when ever opposition side sit back to create formidable block, so we also barren with goals… rohr please make early sub chukwueze or etebo for iwobi.
Which defense this clown is talking about ? I’m sure he hasn’t play a team like Super Eagles in his entire life before.,. Let him do the talking while Super Eagles do the work in the field of play…
Correction **He hasn’t played**
Na so we too de talk anytime Nigeria is to meet Argentina /Brazil/Germany and other football world powers but finally, one way or the other, we go still chopam. So Burundi, as far as Africa(AFCON) is concerned, we are your Argentina/Brazil/Italy etc. So, without complacency Super eagles go beat una wella.
At the end of the day, he’ll change it to they’re better side than us, they have players plying their trade in Europe and they’re experienced. Our focus now is on the next game
