Nigeria and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman was placed in 14th place in the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.
Lookman’s 14th place finish was announced on the X handle of Ballon d’Or on Monday, October 28, 2024.
Reigning CAF Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen finished in eight place in the 2023 edition of the award.
Lookman was the only African who made the 30-man shortlist for this year’s award following his impressive performance for Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Atalanta.
He played a key role in the Eagles’ run to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, scoring three goals.
His impressive display for the Eagles earned him a place in the Team of the Tournament.
He took his form to his club and helped them qualify for the Coppa Italia and Europa League finals.
After suffering a 1-0 defeat to Juventus in the Coppa Italia final, Lookman helped Atalanta bounce back from the disappointment by netting three goals in the 3-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final.
He, alongside William Troost-Ekong have been shortlisted for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award with many tipping him for the award.
Meanwhile, Spain and Manchester City midfielder Rodri was crowned the 2024 Ballon d’Or award winner.
Rodri becomes the first Spanish player to win the award since Luis Suarez in 1960.
Also, he is the first Premier League player since Cristina Ronaldo won it in 2008.

African best
African best. Nigeria is the best country in Africa. If not because of corruption and some regional deficiency in leadership, Nigeria would have been an envious state to visit, God is watching. I love this country.
Big congrats and hugs@big bros Lukman . If Nigeria had won the Nations cup like Spain won the Europe’s perhaps you will have placed higher than 14th. All the same we are so proud of You.
