Kepa Arrizabalaga emerged the hero as his penalty shootout heroics helped
Champions League holders Chelsea defeat Villarreal to win their first UEFA Super Cup since beating Real Madrid in 1998.
Substitute goalkeeper Arrizabalaga saved captain Raul Albiol’s spot-kick to give Chelsea a 6-5 shootout win after 120 minutes of football ended 1-1.
Hakim Ziyech opened the scoring for the Blues in the 27th minute when Kai Havertz ran on to ball into the left channel and delivered a precise pull-back, with Ziyech directing his shot in despite not getting a clean connection on the ball.

However, Ziyech was then forced off with what looked like a worrying shoulder injury before half-time.
Villarreal hit the woodwork either side of the break before Gerard Moreno equalised in the 73rd minute to force extra time.
The equaliser was the result of a poor clearance out of defence by Kurt Zouma, with Moreno feeding Boulaye Dia whose clever flick-return to the Spaniard was clinically swept past Edouard Mendy.
Chelsea failed to rediscover their first-half vigour in extra time but did come close to a winner through Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount.
With penalty shootout looming Arrizabalaga was brought off the bench and made two saves one of which was the decisive effort by Albiol.

I am proud to be a Chelsea fan. We are , determined, dependable and reliable club to win trophies.
I have so much respect for our new gaffer. He knows what he is doing. Not like NFF and our world class coach that has been inviting foriegn based players without winning a tea cup.
He keep misusing our players to the extent that our Super Eagles team were managed to win Bronze medals which meant nothing Nigerians.
Confusion every where.
When we are talking now, they will come out in numbers starting their blabbing again.
We can see the way my Chelsea club is winning trophies now?
Be ready for us NFF, oga Rohr and his fans. We are coming for you all. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
