Sergio Aguero bagged himself a brace as reigning Premier League champions Manchester City secured a 3-1 victory at Bournemouth on Sunday. It was only 15 minutes before the City took the lead in the first of Sunday’s three top-flight games.
Oleksandr Zinchenko produced a low cross from the left which was initially miscued by Kevin de Bruyne, who was unmarked in the box. The ball, though, fell kindly for striker Aguero, who was also unmarked, and the Argentine controlled it before poking it past keeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Adam Smith had a great opportunity to level things up on 39 minutes when an error from City defender Nicolas Otamendi saw the ball roll loose. Smith pounced on it but could only blast the ball over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy.
The Cherries were made to pay for that squandered opportunity just three minutes later when Raheem Sterling scored a goal for his fifth game in a row.
David Silva flicked a lovely ball into the path of the England international who made no mistake with the finish to make it 2-0.
The Cherries did pull one back just before the break when Harry Wilson produced a trademark free-kick that curled into the top-right corner.
In the second-half the hosts pushed for an equaliser and City keeper Ederson was forced into a good save to deny Callum Wilson in the 56th minute.
City had a penalty appeal turned down before David Silva worked his way past a few defenders to put Aguero in for his second goal of the afternoon.
The Cherries could not find a way back into the contest and it was Pep Guardiola’s side that headed back up to the north west with the three points to move to second place in the table behind front-runners Liverpool.
