Borussia Dortmund have parted ways with manager Nuri Şahin after Tuesday’s Champions League defeat at Bologna.
Dortmund were beaten finalists in the competition last season, but the loss on Tuesday was the club’s fourth successive defeat in all competitions.
Recall that Sahin was assistant to former Dortmund coach Edin Terzic in last season’s surprise run to the Champions League final where they lost to Real Madrid and the 36-year-old was promoted to head coach in the summer.

Sahin could only manage six wins in his next 19 games as Dortmund manager, ending his career at the club with a four game losing streak. BVB are currently sat 10th in the Bundesliga table, seven points behind the final UCL spot.
In a club statement, Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken said: ‘We value Nuri Sahin and his work very much, we hoped for a long-term collaboration and until the end we had hoped that we could achieve a sporting turnaround together.
‘After four defeats in a row, due to only one win in the last nine games and currently tenth in the Bundesliga table, we have unfortunately lost faith in being able to achieve our sporting goals in the current constellation. This decision hurts me personally, but it was unavoidable after the game in Bologna.’

The wahala was just too much. They had to let him go.
Dortmund consider themselves to be a big club, therefore a paltry 6 wins in 19 games, plus the last 4 games ending in defeat was just too much of a bitter pill for the Dortmund officials to stomach.
It’s not personal, it’s business. There’s a lot of money at stake, and failure is just not an option.
If it was Nigeria, Sahin would have fared better, as we seem to have a higher tolerance for mediocrity and failure.
Imagine a coach losing at home to Rwanda and still expecting to keep the SE coaching job? Anywhere you go in the world, a poor result of that magnitude is likely going to leave the manager instantly unemployed. We need to start copying this template. Reward producing coaches, and sack failures speedily.
BTW, is it not funny we lost to Rwanda at home, yet some of us feel too big to have a Malian as our coach? Nothing wey Gateman never see for gate!
