Victor Boniface, Nathan Tella and their Bayer Leverkusen teammates equaled the incredible feats set by Real Madrid, Juventus and Inter Milan following their 4-0 win against Fortuna Dusseldorf in the German Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.
Boniface and Tella came on in the 65th minute as Leverkusen recorded their 40th game unbeaten this season.
It was Boniface’s first appearance since suffering an injury prior to the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
According to Squawka, The win against Dusseldorf means Leverkusen now join Madrid, Juventus and Inter as the teams from Europe’s big five leagues to have put together a 40+ game unbeaten run across all competitions in the 21st century.

While Juventus went 43 games unbeaten in the 2011-12 season, both Inter (2004-05) and Madrid (2016-17) each did 40.
Xabi Alonso’s men secured their fifth straight win following the impressive Cup triumph against Dusseldorf.
They will hope to continue their unbeaten streak when they visit Union Berlin in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash.
Currently, they are on 73 points and are 13 points clear of Bayern Munich in the league table.

It is going to take a fight to prise those two from Leverkusen’s grip and make them play for Nigeria again. The NFF had better be aware of this and start making their move now as to make it easier to bring them for the Super Eagles’ next match.
Same goes for Nottingham Forest’s Awoniyi. Whenever I think about them, my mind tells me that we are slowly losing them for good.
