Bayer Leverkusen and Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has reacted to his exclusion from the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award nomination.
On Thursday. CAF announced the 10 nominees for this year’s award which will hold in Morocco with Boniface overlooked for selection.
However, his Nigerian teammates Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong made the cut.
Commenting on the snub, Boniface responded to a post by Leagues Reporter, an X handle who listed the striker’s achievements in the 2023/24 season.
“Won the Bundesliga, won DFB-Pokal, Europa silver medalist, scored 21 goals, assisted 10 goals, played 34 matches. Boniface Victor didn’t make it to the list of nominated players for CAF Player of the Year. This is a big surprise.”
Boniface then added his other achievements and attributed his exclusion due to his absence at the 2023 AFCON.
“Rookie of the season (Bundesliga)
Team of the season (Bundesliga),” he wrote.
“No worry I no play AFCON
Na why I dey wait for memes d or,” which translated to mean no worries it’s because I didn’t feature at the AFCON so I’m waiting for Ballon d’Or nomination for memes.
Meanwhile, among other players who made the cut include South Africa’s goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Achraf Hakimi of Morocco, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, Sofiane Rahimi of Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire’s Simon Adingra.

Great achievement from you but your national team performance have been very bad. It’s the year of afcon so you should expect that to count.
Anyways I expected you to make top 10. Not making top 10 is a big surprise.
Improve your national team performance
I don’t understand the whole thing again because from other report I saw, is lookman, Boniface and Diaz so how come about this news of Boniface’s exclusion?
Caf distanced itself from the online report. This is the authentic list.
