Burundi forward Saido Berahino is confident the Swallows can create a big upset by edging past three-time winners Nigeria in today’s (Saturday ) Group A clash at the Alexandria Stadium, reports Completesports.com
The Swallows will be playing their first ever game at the AFCON finals against the Super Eagles. Kick-off is 6pm Nigerian time.
“We’ve assessed Nigeria and we know their strengths and weaknesses. We will stand tall against them like we have against other teams. They are expected to win because of their status but may the best team win,” Berahino told reporters in Alexandria.
“We’ve been called underdogs right from the qualifiers but we are motivated by that tag and that’s why we were able to qualify unbeaten. Qualifying is a massive honour that united the country.
“We take each game as it comes and we will see how far we can go in the competition.
Berahino who will have the honour of leading the once war ravaged country against the Super Eagles is really looking forward to the big occasion.
“I never dreamed of playing in Europe but God made it possible. Burundi has always been my home even if I have played for England in the age grades. It’s an honour to captain this team for the first time.”
