Zinedine Zidane hailed Karim Benzema’s professionalism after the Real Madrid striker made in five goals in four games on Monday night. Benzema bagged the equaliser as Real drew 1-1 at Leganes, a result which keeps them third in La Liga.
Media reports have suggested Real are looking at new forward options for next season, despite the fact that Benzema has scored 18 league goals this season, 27 in all competitions. However, Zidane said the 31-year-old had not been distracted by such talk.

“Benzema is having a very good season, particularly as far as goals are concerned,” the manager said. “He’s focusing on his goalscoring. He’s a fantastic player and this season he’s scoring far more goals. I’m delighted for him. “He’s used to rumours, but that won’t change anything for him.
He’s shown his character and he’s doing a good job for the team.” Speculation also continues about Gareth Bale’s future at the club and he had to make do with an appearance as a late substitute on Monday. Zidane again flat-batted away questions about the Welshman, saying only: “Bale is an important player in this squad.
I wanted to make changes today and that’s it. “It’s difficult to get in to a game when you only play 10 or 15 minutes, but substitutions are made to change the game and we were unable to do that.” With six games to play, Real are 13 points behind leaders Barcelona but also 10 ahead of fifth-placed Getafe so appear to have little but pride to play for.
