Club Brugge head coach Nicky Hayen has defended Raphael Onyedika after the player was sent off in the club’s 1-1 draw at Sporting Charleroi on Friday night.
Onyedika was dismissed 10 minutes after the break for a reckless challenge.
Hayen however said the decision by the centre referee was harsh.

“That is never a red card. Yes, he goes in hard, but not with the studs on the ankle. That was not a dangerous action and he also touches the ball. It is not that he hits him full on the ankle or the foot. I think yellow was certainly enough,” the gaffer said after the game.
Captain Hans Vanaken also jumped to the decision of Onyedika.

The defensive midfielder will now miss Brugge’s next three league games against Union St Gilloise, Westerloo and Anderlecht.
