Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso believes Nathan Tella has the quality to become a key star for the Super Eagles.
Tella has been handed a maiden invitation by Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
The 24-year-old earned the invitation on the back of his impressive displays for the Bundesliga leaders.
The versatile winger linked up with Die Werkself from Sky Bet Championship club, Southampton in the summer.
Tella opened his goal account for Bayer Leverkusen in Sunday’s 4-0 victory against Union Berlin.
Alonso believes the player will thrive on the international scene.
“Nathan is a player that has the ability to just do the right thing, be in the right place, he has the quality to be in the box and makes the right runs,”Alonso told the club’s official website.
“In Nigeria they have great strikers and maybe they could use good wingers. He’s a really nice guy with a strong mentality, he has a great attitude.”
Tella was born in England to Nigerian parents and was eligible to play for both countries.
He has however pitch his tent with the three-time African champions.
