Real Madrid’s basketball team has earned over €20 million through NBA buyouts in the past decade.
Basketball marketing expert Marco Pagliariccio disclosed this via his ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, August 18, following the recent move of French player Guerschon Yabusele to the Philadelphia 76ers.

This financial milestone, which underscores the Spanish side’s strategic approach to nurturing talent, began in 2014 with Nikola Mirotic, who left Real Madrid for the Chicago Bulls after the club triggered his €2.5 million buyout clause.
In 2016, Sergio Rodriguez followed suit, departing for the Sixers with a €3 million buyout.
The buyout spree continued in 2018 when Luka Dončić moved to the Dallas Mavericks, resulting in a €2 million buyout.
Additionally, Facundo Campazzo’s transfer to the Denver Nuggets in 2020 came with a substantial €6 million buyout.
Gabriel Deck’s move to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2021 involved a €1.3 million buyout, while Usman Garuba’s transfer to the Houston Rockets that same year added another €3 million to Real Madrid’s coffers.
In total, these buyouts have accumulated to €20.3 million, showcasing Real Madrid’s successful track record in developing and monetizing top basketball talent.
