The assistant coach of NBA side Boston Celtics, Sam Cassell, has rated his former teammate Hakeem Olajuwon of the Houston Rockets as better than Nikola Jokic.
Cassell lent his voice to a hypothetical matchup between Olajuwon and Jokic during an appearance on Draymond Green’s show, asserting that Olajuwon would be considered better than Jokic due to his comprehensive impact on the court.

He recalled that Olajuwon ranked high in various NBA categories, including steals, rebounds, and points, describing him as a dominant force.
“Hakeem is a beast in every sense on the floor. He’s in the Top 10 in every NBA category—steals, rebounds, points,” Cassell said.
He credited Jokic’s basketball prowess, acknowledging that he might score more points but believed Olajuwon’s relentless pressure would be decisive.
“I think Jokic would score more points, but Hakeem would win because he would constantly pressure him. Jokic wouldn’t be able to do damage in the post; it simply wouldn’t happen.”
