Nigeria’s Rivers Hoopers lost to Al Ahly of Libya 89-83 in the semi-finals of the 2024 Basketball Africa League in Kigali, Rwanda on Wednesday.
The defeat brought to an end Rivers Hoopers’ impressive run which saw them become the first-ever Nigerian team to reach the semi-finals of the competition.
In Wednesday’s tie, Al Ahly took the first quarter 27-21 and also took the second quarter by 48-37.
Rivers Hoopers fought back to take the third quarter 60-56 but could not sustain their lead as Al Ahly rallied back to eventually win 89-83.
The Nigerian side will now face either Cape Town Tigers of South Africa or Petro de Luanda of Angola in the third-placed game on Friday.
