Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu and the club’s entire board have resigned from their positions with immediate effect.
Bartomeu announced this at a press conference on Tuesday evening at the Nou Camp, following a board meeting in Catalonia on Monday.
The pressure from supporters towards Bartomeu intensified this summer when
Lionel Messi threatened to leave the club.
Despite staying, Messi accused Bartomeu of lying to him and criticised the club for not having a project.
Bartomeu’s term was coming to an end in March 2021 but a censure motion was being brought against him by club members on November 1.
A total of 16,500 supporters had signed a motion to have Bartomeu removed from his position with a vote due to be held by 154,000 members. More than 66.6 per cent of the vote would have ousted the 57-year-old.
A poor start to the season for Barcelona, who lost out to Real by five points at the top of La Liga last season, has forced his hand.
The announcement comes on the eve of Barcelona’s Champions League fixture with Juventus in Turin.

It won’t surprise me if Messi becomes the next Barcelona president, lol. Yes, Messi may become the first ever president of a club who is still a player for the same club. And after he becomes president, he will likely fire Koeman and make himself the coach as well. Messi has become way too powerful at Barcelona. Not good for football. Not good for business.
Football business is about the players. Better players better team better coach better for everyone. Bad players bad team bad coach and bad is everyone. Messi is among the best player in the world. A senior player among players. Respected. Rich too. He can decide to play for free. So messing him up is a bad move. Not smart at all. Something must go and he has voiced that president as the problem. Rectangular peg in a round hole. The whole world of football were on Messi’s side. And they were losing matches. If that guy didn’t resign, Barca would’ve ended the league below 10th position. That’s where it was heading to. They even allowed Suarez to go!! Blunder.
It just doesn’t look right to me that a player can be so influential as to remove a club president. And not just the president…the entire board!
Barcelona are making it seem as if without messi there will no longer be football. This is a player who havent won the
worldcup or even the copa America to show for all the hype . Honestly , i dislike the whole hype around messi. I dont know why barcelona are so much afraid of losing him wen theyve had better players before such Rivaldo , Sammy Eto, Ranaldinho et al who all were great in their own right. They left but barcelona lived on . Allow messi to go. He is not has good as it seems
Even if we loss to Juve. The good news that the president and the board have resigned will overshadow the loss.
