Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun has prioritised 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification over the Nigeria-Ghana rivalry ahead of the playoffs for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Completesports.com reports.
The Rangers ace who is in the Super Eagles camp preparing for the double header with teammates, reiterated his intent on helping Nigeria qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and brushed aside the West African giants’ much touted rivalry.
“I try to leave the rivalry pretty much aside without saying that I don’t respect the rivalry,” Balogun said in a short video interview posted on the official Instagram page of the Super Eagles.
“But for me personally in preparation for the game, it doesn’t matter too much. Because for me is where I want to go with the team, and that is the World Cup.”
The playoffs’ first leg is set to take place at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi on Friday March 25, and the second leg at the Moshood Abiola National smStadium, Abuja on Tuesday, March 29.

Leon Balogun showed lots of wisdom in his response to the rivalry of both countries and what’s important i.e qualifying for the World cup.
Just as I said earlier, Nigeria is taking this match as a redemption in making right their AFCON ouster by qualifying for the world cup whereas Ghana takes this match as a war , belie ii ng in this whole rivalry bullshit in which the Super Eagles have moved far beyond in their approach to the issue .
Ghana should noted this , it’s not about fearing to play in the Kumasi stadium that disturbs Super Eagles mindsets. For they are not taking the match for granted nor underestimating the black stars one bit for I know they ( the black stars) will play with a physical approach in the match . The mindsets of the Super Eagles is to go to the world cup in with at the end , they are going .
You are afraid. We will whitewash you in kumasi
So is Eguavoen that is taking Nigeria to the World cup. God bless SE as you beat Ghana tomorrow, good luck Nigerians.
