The 30 year old is yet to make an appearance in the for the Seagulls in 2019.
Oliver Giroud got Chelsea off to a good start poking in Callum Hudson Odoi cross from the right flank in the 38th minute.
The goal was Giroud’s first of the season in the English Premier League this season.
Eden Hazard doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 59th minute with a cool finish from the edge of the Brighton.

Elsewhere, Tottenham opened their new stadium, on a winning note defeating Crystal Palace 2-0.
After a goalless first half which Spurs dominated possession, Hueng Min Son’s deflected shot in the 55th minute and a close range finish from Cristian Eriksen secured maximum points for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
The win sees Spurs move back to third position ahead of Arsenal who have a game in hand with six games left to play.
