Eric Bailly is expected to spend a minimum of six weeks on the sidelines with the knee injury he picked up in pre-season. The Ivory Coast international saw his 2018/19 season badly interrupted by knee and ankle problems, restricting him to just 12 appearances for United, and he has once again been struck down by injury.
The former Villarreal defender had to be carried off during United’s 2-1 friendly win over Tottenham on Thursday and then arrived back in Manchester in a wheelchair, wearing a knee brace. It is now being reported that following a scan on the joint, Bailly will miss the start of the season and is expected to be out of action until at least September.
United’s medical team are hopeful Bailly will not need an operation for the meniscus injury to heal but are understood to have told the central defender he may need a minor procedure if his recovery doesn’t go as planned.
