Former international, Emmanuel Babayaro has defended Daniel Amokachi after the latter rejected the chance to work the Super Eagles as an assistant coach.
Amokachi has failed to link up with the Super Eagles in Uyo ahead of their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
Babayaro has however revealed that the former striker turned down the job because of “demeaning terms”.
The conditions according to Babayaro includes no salary, while his involvement with the team will be based on the discretion of the head coach.

“Amokachi was appointed Super Eagles assistant coach under these conditions –and his appearance in any Super Eagles engagement is on needs basis and subject to the head coach’s discretions,” claimed Babayaro on his Facebook page.
“How demeaning can these conditions be?
“Amokachi said yes to the appointment as the Super Eagles assistant coach but an emphatic no to the demeaning conditions attached thereto.
“And yes, the conditions were only just communicated recently.”

Very good…I no even like the assistant coach wey Dem give am self… Amokachi wey don pay him dues right from the time of Keshi deserve to be the head coach…
I completely agree with you and at the same time let’s look at his track records. How many teams has he managed with successful results
It’s a blessing that Amokachi will let the boys to rest.
Personal gains. Claiming of rights. Selfish streaks. Infightings. Individuality vs collectivity. Lack of appreciation for national interest. These are broad national ills that have spilled to thwart our efforts in soccer.
We respect Amokachi’s position. But we can only have one substantive coach at a time. For now, let’s take care of these marauding South Africans.
Good riddance to bad rubbish….!
He ab initio has never come across as someone who has anything tangible to offer the coaching profession….he was woefully as U23 coach, failed as CHAN coach and lost on home soil to Uganda as SE caretaker coach. His club coaching career too is not a tad more impressive.
He should go back to carrying handbags for politicians. There’s definitely more money in that career path.
What were the conditions attached to the assistant coach when Finidi was appointed assistant coach? Isn’t it the same offered to Amokachi?
Amokachi has tasted money from politics. As a former presidential adviser and ambassador, He is too big to earn the pay-as-you-go chicken change NFF is offering Assistant Coaches of the SE.
We have just averted disaster by is rejection of the job.
There cannot be 2 captains on a ship.
When the NFF have had enough of you but cannot outrightly dismiss you then these are the kind of conditions you attach. Something no right thinking individual will accept.
All in all bye bye Amo. Mission accomplished. Next pls
I think Amokachi should take this maturely because from onset he and Amuneke were not considered suitable working with Finidi George. Finidi needs a friendly and conducive environment to work in.
But the treatment given Amokachi is disrepectful and disgraceful for a former dynamic hero who changed Nigerian’s game against Brazil in Atlantic 1996.
All our Heroes should be celebrated and not treated with such contempt.
You cannot ask someone to work without pay. Therefore, I don’t believe what Babayaro is saying. Amokachi may well be qualified for the head coach job, but he is not the only qualified coach for this job. He was not considered suitable at this time. Finidi should be given the liberty to select his own assistants without interference from NFF. Otherwise, there will be problems.
