The striker who had a goal disallowed rued the scoring chances he and team-mates wasted in Mainz’s defeat to Hoffenheim, admitted disappointment with their recent poor form and called for a quick response from everyone.

Mainz have yet to win since the restart. The 05ers’ 1-0 loss to Hoffenheim means they have dropped 12 of the last 15 possible points and they could find themselves sucked into the promotion-relegation play-off place.
22-year-old Awoniyi has hit the back of the net on just one occasion after making ten appearances in the German Bundesliga for Mainz where he is currently playing on loan.
