Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi was on target but it was not enough as 10-man Nottingham Forest lost 3-2 to Manchester United in Saturday’s Premier League game.
Awoniyi has now scored in each of his last seven Premier League appearances for Nottingham Forest, a record run by a Forest player.
Also he is only the third African player to score in seven successive Premier League games, after Emmanuel Adebayor and Mohamed Salah.
Also in action for Forest was Ola Aina, who played for 90 minutes.
Awoniyi gave Forest the perfect start as he opened the scoring in the second minute.
Willy Boly then made it 2-0 just two minutes after Awoniyi’s opener.
In the 17th minute Christian Eriksen pulled a goal back for United on 17 while Casemiro drew United level in the 52nd minute.
Forest were reduced to 10 men on 67 minutes following a straight red card issued to Worrall.
United then went 3-2 ahead on 76 minutes thanks to Bruno Fernandes who converted from the penalty spot.
At the Emirates, Calvin Bassey was sent off in Fulham’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal.
With Arsenal 2-1 ahead Bassey was shown a second yellow card on 83 minutes for fouling Eddie Nketiah.

Awoniyi has what it takes to be Nigeria’s best centre forward. Osihmen has to watch his back. The English Premier League is far better than the Italian league. Osihmen will struggle in Nottingham Forest.
Heaven bless Awoniyi and all deserving Super Eagles strikers.
@ brodaman Abo. I beg to disagree with you on Awo baba comparison with Osimenegooooallls. That boy Osigoals is one of the 3 with THE BIG X presently. The other two being Haaland n Mbappe. Awo baba is surely proving how good he can be when trusted but let’s not start this unnecessary comparison please.
@Glory, I n I will always respect your views Brotherman. Let’s wait until the end of this season then you will come to agree with my views on Awoniyi being the GOAT.
Heaven bless Awothegreat and all deserving Super Eagles strikers.
The pace at which Awoniyi went for the ball in the first goal was frightening…..His acceleration took him past Rashford as if Rashford was just an amateur athlete and believe me Rashford is one of the quickest players in the EPL……. AWONIYI is beginning to show the EPL teams the speed aspect of his game…..who knows Awoniyi might still fullfil his dream of playing for Liverpool one day.
Thumbs up AKPman, you truly know football. Your observations on Awoniyi has no rival. He is the next Nigerian Africa Footballer of the millennium.
there is nothing so special about the premiership. almost all nigerian players that have played in the the premiership have done well and almost all the attacking players have scored goals. so osimhen not being in he premiership doesnt mean awoniyi is better.
to do well in the premiership you need strength, speed and good finishing, having skill is an added bonus but you can do well with the first three.
osimhen has all of the above including a never say die attitude and determination. he is valued at 150 million dollars and plays with some of the best and talented players in europe. he is a record goal scorer in the afcon qualifiers. so awoniyi doesnt come close to him at all.
osimhen is being compared to players like haaland and ronaldo and not awoniyi.
dont get me wrong, awoniyi is a decent player and he has proven to be a good and consistent striker for some years now but when it comes to preference, i would rate osimhen higher than him for now.
Now he has added Man utd to his glowing reputation.
Scoring in each of the last 7 EPL matches. 9 goals in 7 matches !
He has showed up against top defenders in top teams i.e. Man utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea
He set mrecords in the Bundesliga and now he’s doing the same in Premiership..
The fact that he’s able to achieve these feats playing for lowly rated teams tell much about his ability.
Awoniyi’s best is yet to come..
I watched the game till the end. I must confess i was not impressed by Awonyis performance. Apart from the goal he had nothing to offer. Its a big error to compare him to Osihmen. I dont even consider him Osihmen’s duputy for now with what i saw against a weak manu team
You really watch the match, I’m starting to feel after scoring a goal, he decided to do nothing else, or is it that awoniyi didn’t have strength to play full 90minutes? Because how do you explain a coach taken off his striker when the team need goal?
Haters identified!
But how come BBC rated him as the MOTM. I guess you Sabi pass BBC analysts.
See how una exposed your hatred in public
meanwhile, victor boniface has scored 2 goals in germany to open his goal account. the game is still on and he is still on the field so anything can still happen.
What a useless goal and they still lost the match and you’re comparing him with osimehen ,if Awoniyi is a threat like osimehen they would have won but he’s just an average striker
This is pathetic tho. A striker with a burst from his own half robbed the opponent off the ball and raced down to slot home and you called that a useless goal? It’s just À shameful tbing to say. He wasn’t even assisted for the goal, he did it all by himself . Was he the defenders that will prevent Man U from scoring ? How many times was he fed through out the game?…Have some dignity in your analysis about Awoniyi boy!
useless talk and bad belle. A striker that has scored in 7 consecutive premiership game is an average player. If osimein is playing in Northingham would he have performed excellently then Two ? It is people with average mentality that would call Awo an average player. Can Osimein best that run that led to that goal ? Don’t forget he played in German league and performed well the same league Osi didn’t do well before he was sent to Belgium.
Awoniyi is doing great, but comparing him to osihmen is nothing but a funny joke, how can you compare an average below first 50 strikers in the world to a potential african player of the year, even if osihmen dont score in the nest seven games he will still be ahead of awoniyi, they are not of thesame level at all, you dare to compare them because awoniyi is Nigerian too, if not i dont think you guys will even reason it, if he was a ghanian, unless you are jealouse of osihmen, seria A have about 10 more Better strikers than awoniyi both in play and worth, osihmen stands above all.
Talking of awoniyi, i cant bet on him in eagles jersey, infact he is same level of maja, moffi, dessers. akpom and Adam may be better than awoniyi in the eagles if tried. But for now we have osihmen, burniface and orban these guys are not average strikers, they are incredible strikers, that posseses skills and Extreme ball sense, i watched burniface today and the commentator said he his a better option than bayern 100 million kane, the class is too high, i see aneka lukaku combinations in his game,
Orban on is own is another crazy baller, he is just a fenomenom, he posses a verry strong shot acuracy, incredible vision, great footwork, left and right foot killer, he can play free kick as strong and precise like jay jay, he is just another suarez in a black packaged gift. osihmen, everybody knows he is ronaldrogba.
Awoniyi have none of these quality, he is just another little ighalo at watford. Saying that osihmen played in Bundesliga and didnt perform is not true, he wasnt given enough time and his then coach regrets it now, apart from that awoniyi played in netherland and belgium leagues and he didnt do well, before moving to germany, so i dont want to judge them by their tough times, awoniyi featured in afcon turnament as our number 9 first striker, he played nothing absolutely rubbish, he made the history of the worse Nigerian number 9 in history of afcon, he had less than 4 shot on goal in the entire games he played and the only goal he scored was the one that hit his head, he wasnt even aware of the goal, no nigeria striker have ever performed that poor in a nations cup infact obiora nwankwo would have done better, recently when he came in for osihmen in the serrie loen game we saw how completely toothless he was. obafemi, utaka, osaze, ike and kalu uche, aghahuwa, yakubu, ighalo, emenike, ogbuke, obina nwaneri, ideye etc all of these players out performed awoniyi in their afcon debut, some where even substitutes. With all due respect this guy goal scoring is just as obiora nwakwo was scoring for serie A likewise anthony ujah and rohr still overlooked them, we are not just goal followers, we follow them both in skills, carracter and talent, that is why our likes didnt fall for unuachu goal scoring.somebody was comparing orban to onyekuru and some other belgium fall outs players, but dont forget debrown and many kings of the game came through belgium league, onyekuru won the turkish league and cup after belgium, he scored for supereagles too, if not for rohr no sub riggim, onyekuru and osihmen would Have distroyed algeria if given enough time. what happens to onyekuru is failure to work harder eg kalu, iheanacho, isaac success) if you watch orban shot from kickoff you will know his potential is limitless, scouts are also not foolish the attention osihmen burniface and orban are getting is well above anyother strikers nigeria have now, liverkusen is a bigger club than napoli or leicester, and other clubs, if we rank them by clubs ajax, liverkusen, napoli,(osihmen, burniface, akpom) if orban signs for Tottenham or lille he will come on that board. As for awoniyi in supereagles is as equal as moffi and dessers, we have seen them, they are ighalo clone, we due respect to ighalo we dont want to go back to his level. we need to try akpom, adam, orban and burniface in the coming games. This comment have nothing to do with hatred or tribalism but facts, i guess awoniyi is yoruba i love ola aina(inreplacable) ajayi, balogun, infact akpeyi should be recall to supereagles goal he still remain the best the country can offer i dont see anything wrong with that guy, he dey shake oh e de shake oh, but he was constantly saving us, likewise ajiboye, they have age and expy, they are better than all these wana be keepers like uzoho and maduka. But as for awoniyi i hope he proves me wrong, becos he was once my favourite during his age grades journey.
It’s obvious there are some hate filled souls who are spreading lies to mislead forumites.Rather than praising and celebrating with someone whose only sins is doing great things they wished for their local champions.
There is no point hating on a brother that has broken a 28 yr club tecord
T to them is breaking records they like he did at Union, and becoming just the third African and the only Nigerian to score in 7 consecutive games.
There is no need comparing Osi and Awo. Both are the only players to have scored in all nation teams set up (U-15,17,20,23, and SE). The presence of any of these two guts will bring out the best in the other because they know each other for years including Nacho..
if you have to use national teams involvement then you should use their records. Compare the number of matches, minutes and chances created/missed
You talked about AFCON where Awo justified his inclusion starting his first match for SE and having a goal and two assists contribution in 4 matches bur you chose to ignore Osi’s contribution to the WC qualifier loss to Ghana.
How many matches did it take Osi to score his first goal ?
When both players were doing well in the Jupoter League why did Rohr decide to invite Osi and ignore Awo ?
When Awo was breaking records with Union why did Rohr decide on kissing Ighalo asses or running after Nwankwo or operated Onuachu ?
Rohr with backing from corrupt picnic never gave Awo a chance to integrate into the system and some of us know why (the guy na omo Jesus e no day give shishi).
The day the SE hire an above average technical coach with discipline and honest mindset will be the beginning of a great SE side that maximizes the capabilities of Osi, Awo, Kelechi partnership with options in Boni, Orban, and Adam.
Tella, Lookman, Simon, Chulzy, and Sarki as wingers
Akinsemiro,Nnadi, Daga, Eletu, Said, Tijani, Iwobi in MF
Ajayi,Frederick,Ogbu,Ogwuche, Akpo, with Balogun in Defence
Bassey, Sanusi, Aina, Samuel, and Ebuehi as wing backs.
I still believe we can get good GK from the local league to work with Adeleye, Osigwe and other active ones.
