Completesports.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU appraises the performance of Super Eagles, player-by-player, in their 4-0 defeat against La Selecao of Portugal in a friendly game at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, Lisbon on Thursday night.
FRANCIS UZOHO 4/10
Conceded four times in the game. He made a superb save to deny Jooa Felix in the second half. His ball distribution was awful.
BRIGHT OSAYI-SAMUEL 5/10
A tough debut for the Fenerbahce man. Won the penalty that was missed by Emmanuel Dennis in the second half.
WILLIAM TROOST-EKONG 5/10
The centre-back endured a torrid evening. He however made one vital block in the first half.
KEVIN AKPOGUMA 4/10
It was a tough evening for the Hoffenheim defender. Struggled to cope against the opposition attack especially in the first half.
CALVIN BASSEY 4/10
A below average performance from the left-back. He offered little in defence and attack.
WILFRED NDIDI 4/10
The Leicester City midfielder failed to stamp his authority on the game and was duly replaced at half-time by Frank Onyeka.
ALEX IWOBI 5/10
Iwobi tried his best but couldn’t affect the game much.
ADEMOLA LOOKMAN 3/10
The winger had little or no impact in the game. Lookman was replaced after the break by Samuel Chukwueze.
MOSES SIMON 5/10
The Nantes of France player had a shot saved in the first half. Showed glimpses of his best.
JOE ARIBO 4/10
A disappointing display from the midfielder. Make way for Oghenekaro Etebo in the second half.
TEREM MOFFI 3/10
He was anonymous on the pitch. No surprise the forward was replaced by Paul Onuachu two minutes before the hour mark.
SUBSTITUTES
SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE 6/10
Took the place of Ademola Lookman after the break. Troubled the Portugal defence and was unlucky not to score on 72 minutes.
FRANK ONYEKA 4/10
Helped shore up the midfield a little after replacing Wilfred Ndidi.
PAUL ONUACHU 3/10
He didn’t affect the game much following his introduction.
OGHENEKARO ETEBO 3/10
Received a yellow card late in the game. He will need to do more to regain his place in the starting X1.
EMMANUEL DENNIS 3/10
Came in for Moses Simon and missed from the spot.

Na only competitive matches Nigeria win for 2022 after the Ghana debacle. All friendlies were lost: Mexico, Ecuador, Algeria, Costa Rica and now Portugal.
Only 2 goals (against Mex and Alg) we scored in at least 450 minutes, over 7 hours of football!
And we claim to have red hot ballers.
It is finished
In another dimension, this game could have ended 2-2!
If Chukwueze had scored his chance, and Dennis had converted his penalty…it could have happened.
Although unlikely, we might even have gone on to win the game, with a bit of good fortune. The 2-2 equalizer would have dampened the morale of the Portuguese, and we could have possibly exploited that.
Although the Portuguese were way better than Nigeria, the SE could still have gotten something from this game, WITH GOOD GAME MANAGEMENT.
But the lion share of the blame is reserved for our administrators.
They have let us all down tremendously.
The four clinical goals had my brother hallucinating haha!
Wake up cuz u have sleep for too long haha
Don’t mind the eagles.they thought they will go beat Portugal in their land . Hence the result.
Ghana would have sat back a while a draw the game or even win by a goal .
Eagles of this days don’t have tortoise brain . U know all if not 98% of them don’t have tales by moonlight stories..and if u look at the team only chueze the Villarreal man is a ball junglar in the team the rest are pass to me pass u. See the Portuguese they play with eye contact . Dummy ball set paces . One two touch .
All those guys that scores less than 3 in the rating shud be sanction from the team for two to three matches
Thank you @Pompei. You’re totally on point. Game was heading for 2-2, until the bad eggs in the eggs spoiled the broth. Now, the coach knows who to weed out permanently from the team.
Rohr too scandalously lost 0-2 to South Africa in his first match, but after then he stopped inviting some players and his team became too hot to handle until his hey days as coach.
As for the nosy Ghanaians on this platform, especially @Yaw, @Fetch, a d the @self boy, I @Kel stand by every punch I landed on your leaky mouths until they bloodied.
Tell me when Portugal is playing. Shebi we dey here. I say, you’ll lose all 3 matches with record scorelines. We shall meet at Afcon 2023. By then, Dennis,Uzoho (who handed you the ticket without sweat) would have been retired from this team.
Your WOTOWOTOFICATION X3 is loading. I’m your nightmare in this platform. I’m the spirit of the Nigerian. I can’t be intimidated. Respected me, I respect you, charlie. Silly things!
What’s WOTWOTWOFICATION teacher?
WOTWOTWOFICATION is what Portugal did to Nigeria haha
A text book definition of WOTWOTWOFICATION is what we say today at Lisbon haha
Ghana ll avenge our little broos!! Is a promise lol
Lol
I saw just the first half and that was enough!
Yeye football!
I told them they will be beaten wotowoto and they called me names. Abi you guys see your smoothness level now? Yawa team! This team na mens fellowship or singing band? Hahahahahahahaha
Why are you so excited?Like your best wish has happened? The downfall of Nigeria brings the beast out of Ghana..Wow I was expecting you and your brother’s to flood this site after the Portuguese game to celebrate our lose.
Calm down it’s just a friendly, agreed our team is shit at the moment and so what? It’s only a game a friendly one for that matter relax brother and let us have some peace! We are not the first to get beat by 4nil take some chill pill bro!
We aren’t celebrating ur fall bro!! But we are rather happy that Portugal has shut up the big, bragging mouth of some Nigerians lol!!
When Brazil beat ghana wotwotwo, a lot of bloggers here were super excited and I didn’t see u saying Ghanas loss has brought the BEAST IN THOSE NIGERIAN FANS lol
Of course it isn’t the first and it wldnt be the last too but at least tell ur brother to chill too and let them know that u players are OVERRATED(some)
Btw enjoy the trashing lol @ greenturf
We are paying a so-called coach $75k monthly for this kind of poor coaching… NFF has never given any indegenious coach $25k monthly.
The most annoying thing is that we can take this nonsense from mercenary whitemen but never give a Nigerian freehand to tinker the team.
Our solution will remain to hire a Nigerian and get quality assistants. I still maintain we should try Manu/Amuneke/Finid. Pay them well even N10m/N7m/N5m won’t be bad.
Senegal, a smaller nation than Nigeria and likewise Algeria are showing us how to do it. Hire Nigerians, we cannot after over 60yrs+ of playing professional football as nation continue to insult ourselves hiring stupid whitemen to manage our Super Eagles.
Under Rohr for 5years we did not progress, and Peseiro is worse than Rohr. Peseiro is worst with sticking to 4-4-2 in modern day football.
How come we have seasoned coaches like Ugbade/Manu/Amuneke who have worked with most of our talented youths and we are still denying them growth. Austin Eguaveon who is himself a static coach when ideas are needed is not the only Nigerian out there.
Until we learn that we must upgrade the standard of NPFL and inject serious funds and marketing into our league with good remunerations for players and staff, we will continue to decline.
Why are we not seeing Olayinka/Yusuf/Boniface/Folarin? Finally any pattern that we must play in this modern era needs a 5-man midfield. You cant win against a worthy opposition playing catching-up with a man less in midfield. No serious footballing nation that’s wants to dictate the tempo of a football match plays 4-man defence and 4-man midfield. A 4-man defence in 4231 can be accommodated but a team that wants to compete must adopt a 5-man midfield else, you chase the ball for 90minutes.
Finally… Moffi is very disappointing and we need to start thinking of easing Ekong out of the team, he is not and will never be a good ball player. Ekong is unworthy of continuing in the Super Eagles… My take.
Ekong, Aribo, Ndidi, Etebo should all go and a replacement found for them ASAP in the SE Defence and midfield.
The problem is not the coaching alone. The players lack commitment and determination and have been poor and fading since the closing days of the Rohr era.
Thank you @Selfmade
Some players are demoralized. The absence of Osimhen affected the team they say a player with a big presence can ginger a team mentally and Subconsciously. Aribo, Ndidi should go no where for me the players that need dropping are Ekong, Moses Simon and Etebo maybe (for Onyedikachi) and in their place Olisa Ndah, Isaac Success respectively, Raphael Onyedikachi needs to be brought in the team and also we need to find a way to persuade Eze to come play for Nigeria. and for gods sake Victor Moses needs to make a u-turn the guy is still the best and most experiecencd player SE have currently that is still active, this fable that Musa is a SE legend fed to us by an Nigerian media needs to be squashed. Victor Moses when back from Injury needs to be brought back and handed that Captains Armband he has been the player over the last 12 years that gave SE all the joy we experiecned AFCON 2013 and World cup qualifiers 2018. Sadiq Umar can take Either Moffi or Onuachu place when he is fit again any other drastic action will derail our ball. also if we can get Michael Olise and Destiny Udojie as well as Alhasan Yusuf in the team some then we can make it. But the problem with Nigerias is now every body will have conflicting interest and call for rubbish what I have written above is the only way back on track as of now Umar Sadiq is the only attacker that can Rival Osimhen if he stays fit next season. Thank you!
The players are clearly demoralised for not getting to World cup. And please the hate on Samuel Chukwueze by Nigerians needs to stop he and Osimhen are lethal when playing together!
