Chez Reavie says he will be looking to extend rather than preserve his six-shot lead on Sunday at the Travelers Championship. The 37-year-old, who was T3 at last week’s US Open, stunned the field on Saturday with a brilliant seven-under 63, although it was not all plain sailing in Connecticut.
After five opening pars, Reavie bogeyed the sixth but hit back with a birdie at the eighth before coming home in 28. His seven birdies coming home moved the Kansan to 16-under for 54 holes, six clear of Keegan Bradley and Zack Sucher, while Roberto Diaz and Jason Day are a further stroke back on nine-under at TPC at River Highlands.
It looks like Reavie’s tournament to lose but despite him aiming for his first title since the 2008 Canadian Open, there is no suggestion he will be playing defensively. He said: “If I go out and shoot five or six-under, if someone catches me, they’re going to play a hell of a round. That’s my goal. Go shoot five- or six-under.”
