The Asisat Oshoala Academy (AOA) is excited to announce the appointment of Lanre Vigo as its new Director, bringing a wealth of experience in sports management, youth development, and football administration.
Founded by six-time African Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala MON, and supported by Nike, the Asisat Oshoala Academy is committed to empowering young female footballers by providing high-quality training, education, and career pathways in football and beyond.
The Academy’s vision is to create a sustainable pipeline for the next generation of female football stars, ensuring they have the technical skills, discipline, and mentorship to succeed on and off the pitch. In 2024, the academy recorded significant achievements, with its players earning national team call-ups, securing scholarships, and competing in high-level tournaments.
Building on this momentum, the academy’s 2025 objectives include expanding its talent development programs, increasing international exposure for its players, and strengthening its competitive framework. Mr. Vigo’s appointment is a key step in achieving these goals.
Mr. Vigo, a seasoned football executive, co-founded Plug Sports, a leading sports management agency that has played a key role in nurturing and managing top-tier talent. He is also the founder of Inter Lagos FC, a professional football team founded in 2023 and competing in the Nigerian National League (NNL) that made a remarkable impact in its debut season by reaching the playoffs, demonstrating a strong foundation and commitment to excellence. His expertise in talent scouting, player management, and football administration makes him the ideal leader to drive the Academy’s mission forward.
“I am honored to join the Asisat Oshoala Academy at this pivotal time,” said Vigo. “AOA’s mission aligns with my passion for developing young talent and creating pathways for them to excel. Having worked with Asisat on other projects, I share her passion for this project, and I look forward to working with her and the entire team to enhance the Academy’s programs and expand its impact.”
Asisat Oshoala, 6-time African Women’s Player of the Year, and Founder of AOA, expressed her confidence in Vigo’s leadership: “Lanre has a deep understanding of talent development and football administration. His experience will be instrumental in strengthening our programs, expanding our reach, and ensuring that more young girls have access to the opportunities they deserve in football.”
She added that: “2024 was a good year for the Academy, but this year is a crucial year for our future, building on what we have achieved so far, and having someone with Lanre’s experience and vision is exactly what we need to achieve our goals. His expertise will help take AOA to the next level.”
With Mr. Vigo at the helm, the Asisat Oshoala Academy will continue to advance its core pillars of training, mentorship, education, and leadership and life skills development, ensuring that young female athletes not only excel in football but also build confidence and life skills for a successful future.
