Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has revealed that the Gunners are battle ready to end Manchester City’s winning run in the Premier League today at the Emirates Stadium.
After winning four Premier League games in a row, Arteta might have felt undone after their run paused due to the postponement of the Wolves game on Tuesday. Although, that little break might have given his stars a breather and time to recuperate ahead of their biggest test yet.
While Arsenal enjoyed a terrific outing against Norwich, scoring five goals in the game, they may not be able to enjoy the same level of freedom against Manchester City.
Arsenal’s recent good results have helped them rise into fourth place in the Premier League table, a position which they will retain irrespective of their result against Pep Guardiola’s men.
Manchester City come into this clash at the back of a ten-game winning streak in the Premier League, which has helped them open an eight-point gap at the summit. With Liverpool losing to Leicester and Chelsea only able to manage a draw against Brighton, Manchester City had the perfect opportunity to extend their dominance at the top, and they did just that.
Man City have won 11 of their last 12 matches against Arsenal in all competitions, including a 5-0 victory in the reverse match at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season, while they have not lost against the Gunners in the Premier League since December 2015.
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta feels they’ll learn a lot about themselves today against Manchester City.
“It’s the biggest test in terms of the level of the opposition, one hundred per cent,” Arteta said.
“They have shown their consistency not only this year, but in the last three years so that’s the level, they have raised a different bar in this league that has been known of before and that is where we have to get to and that’s the aim we have as a team and as a club.”
