Arsenal have reportedly made enquiries about signing France international Presnel Kimpembe from Paris Saint-Germain. According to French outlet Soccer Link, the Gunners have been in contact with the defender’s father to see if an official move has any legs.
Kimpembe has struggled to hold down a place in the PSG side over the past season and, with the Parc des Princes club linked with a summer move for Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, he could find his chances even more limited in 2019/20.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery worked with the 23-year-old during his spell at PSG and that is a seen as a factor in Arsenal’s favour. Emery is looking to strength his defence after Arsenal missed out on a top-four finish in the Premier League.
They conceded 51 goals in their 38 games – at least 12 more than any of the sides who finished above them. They will therefore compete in the Europa League again next season – a competition they reach the final of last month. PSG, however, can still offer Kimpembe the lure of Champions League football.
PSG are likely to command a fee of at least £30million for a player who still has four years left on his current contract after he signed an extension last summer.
