Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder, Martin Zubimendi, with negotiations for a summer transfer to the Gunners said to be at an advanced stage, and the north London club prepared to trigger the player’s £51 million release clause.
The 25-year-old Spaniard has been a long-term target for several elite European clubs, including top Premier League sides. Arsenal have shown sustained interest in Zubimendi, even attempting to secure his services last year.

According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners are currently unable to pay the release clause in full due to Premier League PSR rules, leading to ongoing negotiations over the payment structure.
This delay means the deal is likely to be concluded in the summer. Securing Zubimendi is considered a significant boost for Arsenal, especially with reports suggesting Thomas Partey could leave the Emirates at the end of the season.
However, Sociedad are keen for the midfielder to remain in Spain and complete the season, despite Arsenal’s preference to bring him in during the January transfer window.

A Euro 2024 champion, Zubimendi was previously linked with Liverpool, but a last-minute change of heart scuppered the potential summer move. Now, the midfielder appears ready to finalise a switch to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Arsenal remain focused on addressing their immediate priority – signing a striker in the ongoing January transfer window – as the team has managed just six goals in their last five matches across all competitions.
