Arsenal summer signing Mikel Merino has suffered an injury that will keep him out for a number of weeks.
Merino’s injury was confirmed by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta during his press conference ahead of the Gunners’ weekend clash with Brighton.
The Euro 2024 winner only joined the Arsenal on Tuesday but has already been sidelined by a nasty collision in training.
“Yes, very unfortunate. Yesterday he had a collision and he has a shoulder injury. It looks like he’s going to be out for a few weeks,” Arteta said.
“He was really excited and everything was looking really good. He landed on the floor and Gabi landed on top of him and it looks like he has a small fracture, probably.”
Merino would have been hoping to make his Arsenal debut in this weekend’s game against Brighton, but he will instead be forced to wait.
The former Real Sociedad midfielder was left out of the Spain squad earlier this week, fuelling rumours that he had picked up an injury before the news was confirmed.
Arteta also said that Gabriel Jesus will not be available to face Brighton due to a groin injury sustained before last weekend’s victory over Aston Villa.
He will be hoping to return after the international break if everything goes to plan over the coming weeks.
